I only played Halo 2 with one of my friends from school and Master Chief is actually pretty cool! And by the way his visor never changes color, just his armor, which is why you can customize it to fit your style for multiplayer w/o team battles. I don't know if the custom looks work in the actual game. But they do in multiplayer mode.

The shape doesn't look too good but you did a really good job with the shading and whatnot. You could try making him have some kind of gear on his back so it doesn't look so... blank. You could just make like 2 lines diagnoly inward that touch into 1 line and go down. That way he looks more thin like master chief.
