[Taco Chopper]

It's the Screenshot of the Year 2023 Grand Final! The past month's weekly brackets have culminated to this one single point.

The competitors who are slugging it out for the Great Big Honour of Being The Contest Winner of The Year 2023 are:

Anthus - Blue Bracket (SotM 192)

You will probably need to find another way around, unless you can cool the metal off somehow.

Moosh - Red Bracket (SotM 195)

Vanish into dark

Sheik - Green Bracket (SotM 196)

Naturally 3 wonderful screens, otherwise they wouldn't make it this far! I voted for Sheik here, it has the most appealing layout and design to me

The first time I laid eyes on Anthus' screen, I thought "jeez, this is going to go far in Screenshot of the Year calculations". So far, it's proven me right. It's just a really aesthetically pleasing screenshot overall.

 

Moosh's has always felt like a bit of a dark horse for SotY but I'm putting that down to the fact that it was made specifically for the Barbenheimer SotW. The animation, the stark contrast between greyscale and colour, it's the Wizard of Oz but ZC.

 

I feel like I'm always going to have a personal bias towards anything Sheik does because we have worked on quests together, but I don't think I do his screen enough justice by saying "it's just another Sheik screenshot". He just knows how to squeeze out as much exquisite detail as possible in GB, and this is no exception to the rule.

[Ghost]

Moosh is the best here, disappointed it's so far behind the others. Something that feels new for ZC, and a very neat bubbling animation for it. It's cool and unique. Want to play this game.

 

Anthus is nice, hope that wins otherwise. The background is really lovely and layered wonderfully.

 

Shiek idk. It just feels more obvious than the other ones, gb tiles and a nice sunset. I find the other ones way more experimental and interesting, which should be encouraged and celebrated.

[Shane]

Wonderful screens, they all deserve to be here. I boiled it down between Anthus and Sheik. One has a cool experimental sideview scene and the other has a view of a gorgeous sunset. In the end, I voted Sheik because I feel like the design is more than just "gb tiles".

Anthus: There's a lot going on here, but in a good way. The custom tiles add to the novelty of the screen, which is appreciated. What really sells it for me is the lava and night sky. My vote goes here.

 

Moosh: I voted for this screen in the earlier bracket and almost voted for it again. The transition effect down the middle is seriously impressive, and now I want someone to make a quest incorporating it. I wish there were more decorative elements on the left and right of the screen to further develop the dark v/s barbie(?) dichotomy, instead of just the shadow barrier down the middle.

 

Sheik: That sunset is gorgeous. I voted for this screen in an earlier bracket and had a very hard time picking between it and Anthus's entry. Ultimately, I felt that all the blue near the middle-right of the screen was a little too sparse. It definitely helps to have a less-detailed section of the screen considering how much detail is packed elsewhere into the screen, but I think it needs just a little bit more here. Maybe make the mountain section to the right a bit larger so there's more walkable space ahead of the Sheikah stone, and less blue above it?
