Welcome to Screenshot of the Week 884! We have six entries this week!! :D

Link has no idea how or why a palace from The Magic of Scheherazade ended up in this desert. That ghostly face in the entrance certainly won't tell him...

Moosh

And then who knows what kind of weird dragon magic I'll unleash.

I see dragon, I vote for dragon.

I think otherwise it would have been a tie between TwilightKnight and Zeron; I love the vibes and atmospheres of both of those DoR shots. I also like the nostalgia feel of Rambly's and Hari's shots. I feel like Marchlad's screen is a bit too noisy and needed some screen decorations trimmed.

Voted for Moosh cuz the palette is very nice, and it's a neat vibe for a dungeon screen. Rambly was my second choice. Old tilesets ftw. Also road.

What a great turnout, every screenshot does something unique and interesting it was hard to pick a favorite. Voted for Zeron since I love some interstellar vibes and the entrance is super dope, love that it isn't centered yet still feels designed around.

Six entries! That's great. :) There are lots of different styles and themes on display here.

Visual clarity is important to me, and to that end, I find Zeron's and Rambly's shots to be the easiest to parse. I like the setting of Zeron's shot a lot because it diverges from the terrain I'm used to seeing in Zelda games and SotW entries while still maintaining visual cohesiveness. That said, my vote goes to Rambly this week. She shows how to incorporate detail without cluttering a scene, leading to a pleasant, attractive shot that doesn't try to do too much. The animated flowers are a nice touch.

Thanks for the kind comments!

Crazy turnout. I'm actually really fond of all of the screens this time, and it'd be hard to pick one if I were voting.

)-( Marchland Malady )-(: There's a few elements that don't make total sense -- the perspective of the little alcoves with the skeletons in them is a little scuffed when they're flush against the mountain like that, and the floating heads don't seem to be affixed to anything. Still, this is probably the strongest screen you've submitted to Screenshot of the Week. There's a strong, attention-grabbing setpiece here and generally pretty consistent visual elements with the marshy desert floodplain. Which is just kind of my pretentious way of saying the big building looks cool and imposing and it's a cool setting.

Moosh: Ooh, I love the palette in this one. This one looks really fun - the weird smiling mouthy bomb (...Dodongo Snake?) in the subscreen's got me real curious, the lava texture is really cool and trippy, and I like the way the enemies pop out against the background. Is this Hookshot 3? I gotta play that...

Zeron: This one might actually be my favorite this week - it hones in on a few really distinct visual elements to its benefit. It's cold and hostile in a really cool way, like some kinda pirate base on the surface of the Moon. Which for all I know it could be.

Hari: Love the subtle palette alterations here - is this PTUS? You don't see that one all too often. A simple screen, but pretty effective.

Twilight Knight: The colors are really cool! Really neat setting, really neat gameplay screen that draws you in. It's messy, but in an earthen way that feels like nature has kinda taken over, so it works really well.

Rambly: This is from a long-abandoned project I'm unlikely to finish from 2019. I was going to make a ZC quest where the main conceit was that instead of collecting MacGuffins, the story just unfolded as you traveled from place-to-place to try and talk to people to try and solve an emerging mystery. It took place in then-modern day California. The story was kind of insane, but might have felt prescient had I actually finished it. Exate let me use his tileset; I never told him what the quest was about.

Wow! Another great turnout!

Marchland Malady - As a kid, Magic of Scheherazade was one of my favorite games. An Action RPG that featured standard turn-based RPG elements. This screen looks incredible, but definitely a few too many details. I think just the palace with the Phanto mask would make an incredible scene. Maybe even a blocked off dungeon or a Level 9 or something. Love the palette and the look overall though.

Moosh - I absolutely LOVE the idea behind this screenshot. A Z1 style dungeon that is buried in the mountains. I see what this shot is going for and for me it's a near hit but still looks to be a WIP. For one, the angle of the wall by the mountains is throwing me off. Maybe I'm not looking at it right. Next, the shadows on the mountains has me a bit confused about elevation and depth. Third is the texture of the sand / lava(?) in the pit. By itself, it looks fantastic, but it clashes a bit with the style of the rest of the shot. Really cool what you got going on here though.

Zeron - Not my favorite shot of yours but I like what you have going on here. The fortress with the crates looks great and, as Xanadude and Nicklegends mentioned, there is a certain atmosphere this shot creates. I'm not sure what the outlined textures are, whether they are bushes or some kind of crater, so it confuses me a bit. The north side of the mountain just appears to drop off into nothingness too almost as if the mountain is floating, though I'm not sure how this could be fixed. Love the idea behind this shot.

Hari - Wow this is a cool boss shot! It has that creepy vibe down to create that atmosphere. And that moth from the GB games, to me, is the most impressive. The palette on it is really impressive and there is a lot of depth going on with the colors. Agree with Deedee that it has those 1.92 nostalgic vibes going on too. That palette though for me is what takes this over the top!

Twilight Knight - The second I scrolled to this shot, I knew it was the winner for me. This shot took my breath away for a second, and that's no exaggeration. The color palette you have going on here and the clouds, to me, looks just like the forest at dawn, where the trees and dimly lit by the morning sun, and there is a mist that hovers among the trees. There are certain times a 16-bit screenshot resembles a real-life scene but this one actually brought my mind back to nature, to a scene at some point in time. I used to live in a mountain village and this took me right home. Oh and you somehow managed to create all that and make a block puzzle look perfectly natural in this setting. Voted here!

Rambly - Now this is nostalgia. Exate! Their quests bring back memories. Were they the one that made those Metroid quest back in the day? Might be mistaking that with someone else. This definitely has a 1.92 / Earthbound / Pokémon feel to it too. Love the simplicity and the warm feel of this shot. Don't have much to say but it brings me back to those classic RPGs for sure:)

Thank you everyone for your wonderful turnout. I loved every one of these shots! Keep up the great work!

Thank you all. I'm glad that my weekly random mockups have been enjoyable.

I'm not sure what the outlined textures are, whether they are bushes or some kind of crater, so it confuses me a bit. The north side of the mountain just appears to drop off into nothingness too almost as if the mountain is floating, though I'm not sure how this could be fixed. Love the idea behind this shot.

The outlined objects are craters, but that confusion is pretty natural. The unclear perspective is my biggest issue with those tiles. Also, the "improper" use of CSet-11 for sand isn't helping.

For the mountain, it drops off because it is floating (I wanted a curved horizon, but that didn't work out). It's floating because:

It's cold and hostile in a really cool way, like some kinda pirate base on the surface of the Moon. Which for all I know it could be.

Well done. You got it in one. I should have used the caption to note that it's on the moon (especially considering it looks more like an asteroid), but explaining the crates proved too much of a distraction.

I'd comment on the others while I'm here, but noteworthy evaluations fail me at the moment. Overall, they're all quite good. Voting would have been rather hard.
