I stand here in terror at what I think Autumn's screen is depicting. Do...do the letters sine wave as they travel across the screen?

An unorthodox screenshot from me this week, taken from one of BA3's "Ultimate Tolerance Battles" (or just "UT Battles" for short). Given that you don't get the sword until a ways into the game and all your attacking options require consumables until that point, we needed a non-trivial method for the player to grind rupees without use of one of those resources. As such, Josh took inspiration both from the "random overworld encounters" from his earlier quest Mitch as well as the non-violent battle options from Undertale to create the UT Battles. In this example, Bargo is dodging some attacks in the form of "baas" from the goat on the right. Of course, the quest being in 1.92 means that all of this has to be done with relatively basic engine features - basically just combo cycling with a bit of ingenuity to save on combo space (which we've talked about in a YouTube video for those interested). These battles are far from our only use of combo cycling in the quest, but it is a good opportunity for us to get creative with the types of challenges we can present to the player, especially for a 1.92 quest.

A little, but only in-line. This is a pretty early encounter, so I think sinusoidal attack patterns may have been a bit much at this point ^^; though that does give me ideas...
Haylee and Mitch's entries are both super pretty - Haylee's having a nice balance of starkness and detail that makes good use of the simplicity of the tileset, while Mitch's is more intricate and with more subtle use of colour, but I actually gave my vote to Haylee on this one just because I think the dark translucent layer covering the vast majority of Mitch's screen hampers it a little bit. It does make for a good atmosphere, but something about it feels a little flat to me and makes the tiles kinda blend together a little more if I don't specifically look at the objects in detail. Still very nice though.

Yeah, honestly upon seeing the shot on the Pure forum light theme background I was like "damn, you can't see shit here". I rely a lot on transparent darkness for ambiance in CC but it doesn't really lend itself to SotW unless I'm doing something unique with it. I just forget when I'm in the mines.

I have no idea what I’m looking at, and I love that. I feel like I’m playing WarioWare, a game that thrives off the absurd and unpredictable (while still being quirkily stylish).

A lovely scene, possibly somewhat introspective? The layered gnarled trees add a lot to this shot and make it feel somehow more natural than a typical NES-inspired creation.

You’re doing what you do best. Excellent detail and use of lighting. I won’t ask how lilies are able to grow underground.
Really tough choice this week among three great shots. I’m going to go for Mitchfork, but I genuinely hope everyone is proud of what they’ve created.

This is where the weaknesses of SOTW really rear their head for me. Is Mitch's screenshot a virtuosic display of GB competency? Obviously, yes. Is AutumnHaunted's screen presenting a unique and provocative premise? Also, yes. I voted for Mitch because eye candy (and because I have just one vote), but it really feels like picking between apples and oranges here.
Of course, shoutout to Haylee for presenting a unique snowscape bereft of mountains; its a novel aesthetic and I'm excited to see more.

I'm a sucker for snowy scenes. You can win my heart and maybe one of my kidneys with those.

They're actually tiles shaped like lilypads strategically placed right at water level. It's a huge tripping hazard
