Hi everyone! :) Terribly sorry for the long wait. :sorry:

One of my playtesters pointed out that the eastern end of my Underworld was bland. I didn't realize it during my playthrough, but he was right; in the map of my playthrough save file, there's a big white area on the eastern underworld because I hadn't put much over there worth finding. So, I hope you can understand why I'm currently in the process of spicing it up.

Update:
Thanks to the great suggestions here on the forums, I've got some great plans going. I'm making it an underground desert with a ravine in it.

Yesterday, I finished "chopping down" all the trees in that area and began "pouring" sand on the ground in many of the screens. A day or a few ago, I finished inverting what was cavern wall into a ravine, as well as imported a new midi and completed setup of the DMap.

Also, just yesterday, I made a modified Underworld palette by adding a touch of red to the ground color, as well as created a new CSet 9 based off of one of the existing Classic level palettes that I hadn't touched. So now, there are "Desert Moblins" inhabiting the area instead of the Black Moblins found elsewhere.

Currently, I've only finished a couple of screens out of about 20 screens that this area takes up. I still have to add sand and desert plants to most of them, as well as finish the part where Link can descend into the ravine. ;) (That will be another area I have to work on.)

To illustrate the palette change, here are some screenshots, one of which I previously posted at the end of the above-linked thread:

Old screen:

New screen - before new palette; after new palette:

(Okay, so the first new screen has Red Moblins. So sue me. If you don't know what a Black Moblin looks like, ask me. The point is that the second new shot has the Desert Moblins.)

As you may notice, I recently changed the elevation of the small plateau in the middle. I hope it's obvious that the elevation is different...

Let me know what you think of any of this. :)

I'm still waiting for that release, but it seems you got some pretty nice things going on there :D

Again, great work! Those changes look really nice!

I'm the main guilty for the delay, you can hit me, guys. The screens speak for themselves!

I played the entire thing, and I can assure that this quest will be one of the best 2.10 quests, specially if you like the classic gameplay. Lightwulf put all his heart in this quest, there are a lot of custom tiles, sprites and surprises. The overworld is full of secrets and is a joy to explore. I can't wait to replay it to see my cameo!

That is ace!

I love the use of depth perspective there, although I have to admit, that the 'island' doesn't look to be much lower than the rest of the land. The second image just seems to keep a slanted perspective, which would show more detail, as you move into the distance.

If you were using 2.5, I could give you some handy cheat-ish suggestions for controlling this sort of thing, such as using FFCs to cast shadows, but in 2,10, you're limited to combos. Nevertheless, this is brilliant!

You should probably release your custom classic combo pages at some point, as extensions for the normal classic tileset; as those curved edges actually look natural.

I absolutely love the 'Final Fantasy' perspective used on the re-vamped desert shots. My only critique would be maybe add a corner piece for the rounded edges, but I figure you've probably already thought of that, but haven't done it yet. Good work. :)

Also, this is just a personal preference, but wouldn't it looks cool if there were 'sand'falls trickling down into the abyss?

Thanks, everyone! :shy: :kawaii:

@ZoriaRPG: Yeah.  (I think it's called a "plateau".  Not sure, though.) That was a concern of mine.  Hopefully it's more obvious in the portion of this area that is 3 full-color (meaning "not darkened") combos high instead of the 2- and 1-combo high that you see here.

About the curves, yeah, I probably should. :)  I was considering making a tileset based off of the graphics in this game, but if you think I should release Classic versions of these (mine use more colors than regular Classic), let me know.

@Anthus: I'm sorry; I don't get what you mean by "corner piece".  I have curved corner tiles as shown in the screenshot that I normally use for corners; what do you mean more than that?

If you mean "sharp corners", what I normally do for those is just use the straight up-down side combo diagonally across from a straight left-right side combo to create that effect.  ...  Hunh.  Nice suggestion! :)  I'll have to remember I can use those.  I've mainly used curved corner combos with the ravine outlines, though there is a spot or two where I've had to resort to making a corner between one straight side combo and a curved corner combo to make a 3-sided edge.

"Sand-falls", huh? ... I thought somebody already suggested that in my Quest Design Help thread, but I looked back and couldn't find it.  I don't think I want the area to be filling up with sand, ... but that does remind me that I have a couple other Underworld screens with "lava-falls" on them.  I'll have to consider it! :)  Maybe coming out of the side of the ravine.

Much better now.

Be sure to completely finish your game before releasing it. Don't rush it.
