The Legend of Zelda: Forging Hope began as a response to a
Screen Rebirth challenge, in an old, abandoned quest file. But as I began to build the screen, more and more inspiration flowed until I had a full village. Story ideas began to come to me, and I eventually stripped the quest file of any elements related to its past incarnation until I had something new entirely. This quest is
Forging Hope.
The quest is built with the gameplay style of
A Link to the Past in mind, but also with some original ideas in mind. I want to take the gameplay philosophy of the SNES classic and build something upon it, make something enjoyable, and hopefully tell a good story. I've never felt as much drive to finish a quest until I began making this one, and I will do my best to see it through until the end.
(Quest is still a work in progress so following details may change at any point.)
Story:
In a village lived a boy named Link, destined to be this generation's hero. A new threat arises, one as dangerous as the infamous Ganon, so Link is led to the Lost Woods to retrieve the Master Sword in order to stop him. But to everyone's surprise, the Master Sword is unavailable; the people's only hope now was to forge a new weapon that could withstand the forces of evil and strike down the new threat to the world.
Quest overview:
The intention is to have four or five main dungeons with a final dungeon at the end. One overworld, with various areas and maybe even some familiar locales, though it won't be directly ripping a lot of its locations from
A Link to the Past. It won't be entirely Zelda music, but will have music from other games that I hope will at least fit the game well enough. It will use scripts to help enhance the experience a little, but don't expect anything crazy, other than perhaps a few bosses.
Development process:
Unnamed village - Completed, apart from possible minor adjustments. Interiors and NPCs will need to be added.
Level one - Completed, though needs a boss and then the arena to fight it in.
