An expertly crafted game with an interesting overworld and lots of complex and intricate dungeons, as well as offering an enjoyable challenge all the way through! All the dungeons felt unique and memorable and full of a variety of puzzles that really make you think, and the boss fights are not pushovers, making sure you know how they work before you can really defeat them.
The only real gripes I have are with some of the postgame content because the difficulty curve takes a massive jump at that point, so much so that even though I beat the main game it felt like too much of an obstacle for me to do even though I initially set out to fully complete the game, but that's just a matter of preference at that point rather than an objective criticism; in addition it feels like it would have been better for the boss of the bonus dungeon to be restricted until after postgame is unlocked, because you're expected to have an item from postgame instead of being expected to tackle it when you can first unlock it.

Information
A difficult-ish quest that takes Link across the island of Remdra in his quest to rescue Princess Zelda. Quest is best played in 2.5.0, but should work in 2.5.1 final. I take no responsibility for version bugs caused by this, however.

10+ years after this quest's initial release, I gave this quest a second run thanks to it being highlighted by the Quest Club Community. Some spolier-y review comments are there: https://www.purezc.n...showtopic=79617
IMO this quest remains a top ~3 quest in the database (and I probably wouldn't quibble with anyone who thinks it's #1).

This quest looks beautiful. The overworld is lush and large. It was a long quest, too. I applaud the effort it takes to make something of this scope. Very impressive! I liked all the new bosses and really appreciated the moments of innovation that pushed this one further.
With all that being said, I did complete it. Did I enjoy it? Not really.
First, the game difficulty starts pretty rough and kind of stayed that way for a long while. The first two sword upgrades were largely useless and under powered, and the enemies were fast and hit hard. You had to hit enemies a lot to kill them. It felt like swinging endlessly and it made battle ungratifying. I thought the timeline of when you could get better weapons and armor was a little stingy and late; by the time you got them the enemies had ramped up in difficulty, too, and pretty much negated the sword upgrades. The first armor upgrade was a good turning point, though.
I liked that there was a difficulty setting. I think all quest should have them. The easy setting made the enemies deal less damage but they still had too many hit points, for me. I was still endlessly stabbing. I think the easy mode should have made enemy hit points less instead, which would have picked up the pace in battles as well as making the kills more gratifying.
Dungeons. I do enjoy difficulty and, again, can appreciate the scope of these large ones. However, I felt like these were long winded, tedious and overly cerebral. By the time I got to the end of some of them I was tired and frustrated. I was more than over them and just didnt care anymore. It didnt feel like a fun accomplishment. The Magus tower and the Sunken Basin are good examples. Between the endless loops and tangle of warp points in Magus to Sunkens unending doors and transitions between two very large maps it was too much.
Solid overall, it just wasnt for me. Its Zelda! It should be challenging sometimes, but it should never be not fun.

It took me this many years to finally play this. A fine masterpiece indeed! It can be challenging and frustrating at times, but the challenge is almost always reasonable. You have to earn just about everything, including that one key that you are missing. Fire Vires can go to hell though. Oh wait, they are already there! I'll leave this short because plenty of other great reviews describe this well. Fantastic creation Evan!

easily the single worst video game i've ever played in my life. very poorly balanced enemy combinations and layouts. hitboxes on custom bosses are wonky. dungeons aren't challenging, they're tedious to walk around over and over to the point where you just don't want to go through it again. the only bright spot is the overworld, which is gorgeously laid out and hides the fact that the game is very linear extremely well by giving you a good balance of things you can and can't do as you go along. unfortunately the cheap nature of the rest of the quest just ruins it.
if zero stars weren't resolved for completely broken quests, i'd give it zero stars.
edit: nevermind. it should have zero stars. what a pile of garbage.
