For the first quest on the database this is not bad at all. A full set of 9 dungeons, a BS-size overworld, and a very Zelda 1 feel. This quest is quite good.
Difficulty-wise I'd say this is a little easier than Zelda 1 1st, the difficulty ramps up at a reasonable pace, and you're almost never in a situation where you don't have all the tools you need to complete a dungeon. Level 9 was one of the easier ones I'd played (except for the Death Knight jumpscare right near the end). The overworld kind of opens up as you gain more items, which is a really nice touch. I skipped the Blue Ring entirely through damage boosting, and some of the Lens of Truth functionality is broken in current ZQuest builds, but the quest is fully playable start to finish.
That said, you can softlock yourself right at the beginning due to requiring bombs to not only access the Wooden Sword cave, but also defeat the basic enemies inside. You get 20 Rupees right at the start, and can buy a single set of bombs, but if you run out you're stuck. Because this is right at the beginning it's not too bad, but it is a thing.
Overall, very nice. 3.5/5. Took me about 4 and a half hours, so not bad at all. Some room designs can be a little frustrating in the later dungeons (use of spike traps can be hit or miss when trying to move around them), but otherwise very good.

Story
Link was taking a peaceful walk near Kakariko Village when a mountain burst out under his feet. Dropping his sword on the mountain, he fell down to the ground. He went back to Kakariko Village to recover using a potion. But his sword sits shining in the sun up on the mountain, and he had no way to get it down. After finding a wooden sword in a cave, he goes to see Zelda, where he learns that the strange events that are taking place have been happening because Ganon captured the Queen Fairy. Link must gather the key fragments which are scattered throughout Hyrule in order to form the Magic Key and unlock the door to Ganon's tower.
Tips & Cheats
- Use the Lens of Truth everywhere once you get it! There's many secrets to be found.
- There's a level 1 cheat code that somebody will tell you, but you won't know when you learn it.
- Play the Money Making Game! It's located in Kakariko Village, where you start the game, so earning money fast can be easy with it.
