Zeron: Imminent contests make for uncommon concepts. And puns.

 

Joelmacool: Is... Is that bubble melting?... Anyway, well done making ruins overrun by magma. The rock (obsidian maybe?) works well to make it look like the magma has been affecting it for a while. Good screen overall, especially for a hard environment. Your mastery of the classic tileset is impressive.

 

Twilight Knight: Good, simple cave screen. I think the water adds nice interest without being too eye catching for a transition screen.

Twilight Knight: Good idea using minecart in a cave ,was it hard to use kind of bridge over the water.

Very even week. But I voted for Zeron. I like the background perspective you got going on here.

Great work this week guys! Just some quick comments:

 

Zeron - I really like this shot. At first glance this looked like another old throwback to the 1.92 days,

with a high mountaintop and the scenery from the distance. But what really drew me into this shot

was the ocean in the corner. Definitely not something done back in those days. I've seen a lot of

water animated horizontally or vertically but not often at an angle. The clouds are a nice touch,

and outside of Ganon's strange palette, everything fits. Voted here (I also think I called you

"Zenon" last week. Definitely shouldn't post when you have a cold...)

 

Joelmacool - I love the mood this shot puts on. A ruined dungeon decimated by magma. It

gives it a rough feel with the broken tiles surrounded by the rock / hardened magma. I'm

not sure what the chains are and there's some perspective issues (for some reason the

ground looks to be at a lower level than the corridor and walls, probably due to the

castle tiles being "above" the rock tiles and it throws me off a bit). Still really love this one.

 

Twilight Knight - Simple yet beautiful. I don't really have much to say. This really has

a "Final Fantasy" vibe to it, which may be the highest compliment I can give. It looks

right out of a professional game. I have a feeling the player with zoom past this scene

in an instant, so in a sense it's mottainai (a shame they will only see it so quickly), but

it's these little details that builds the experience so well.

 

Thanks for the shots everybody. This is always so fun for me to look at, and it always

makes my imagination go, as if I'm looking at the video game magazines of old

imagining what those games will be like. Much much appreciation. Cheers y'all!

Good competition this week! Zeron with some beautiful scenery and Joel with a great fiery cave, 2 strong screens.
 

was it hard to use kind of bridge over the water.

Actually I don't use a real minecart script, it's just a cutscene made with FFCs and a minimal amount of scripting.
