Kifstopher - it's a very nice shot. I like how there's a story evident in the scene. The train tracks and tunnel are a fun detail. The tree shadow is a good touch, though it feels a little weird for the tree to cast a shadow but none of the buildings. Unless maybe you were going for a tree reflection in the water as opposed to a shadow? All in all though I really like this shot.

Mr.ReDead - very proficient use DoR terrain, is that a secret tunnel on the left side behind the cracked boulder? I like it. I think the main thing holding this shot back is that there are too many different things; 6 styles of 2x2 trees all of which are different colors, a big palm, two types of tall grass, cloud shadows and treetop shadows, two types of bushes each different colors... I think if you simplified your "tile palette" a fair amount that could improve the shot quite a bit. I think you ought to reduce the number of tree colors down to 2, maybe green and the red bush color you have? Reduce the types of trees down to the big palm, little palm, and maybe two variants of 2x2s on the ground level; though one detail that I really like is how you have the palms on the upper deck and the other tree types on the ground level. Maybe make both bushes the red one and change the MC tall grass to the other tall grass. The only last detail I'd add is a bit of dirt on the ground level, maybe in areas where you think people are most likely to walk through. In all though, I think the layout of the elements and the structure of the screen are on point, well done!

Rambly - I voted here, it's a very novel shot at least SotW-wise. Nice work! I don't really have any notes. Is this a world-map view, or is it SMW world map assets used to make an overworld screen?

Shane - It's a good shot. Is the fire supposed to be in a faerie ring? If so, maybe it ought to be a weird color like blue or purple. Regardless I like the fire, the grass and flowers are nice, the dark water is really nice, and the subscreen is excellent. I guess I would say the shot is perfectly constructed classic shot, though it doesn't really scratch the itch for me in terms of novelty. One detail that comes to mind that might elevate the screen to kind of a "wow" factor for me could be like... the bright reflection of the moon and night sky in the water? Or if the fire is in a faerie ring, maybe will-o-the-wisps floating over the water to lean into a fey theming, with mushrooms growing at the water's edge.

All in all, well done everyone! There's a lot to like in all the shots and I'm looking forward to seeing more from you all.

I'm voting for Rambly, I like her screenshot more and it shows a good understanding of the tileset.

It's SMW world map assets used to make an overworld screen, similar to something like Mario's Insane Rampage. (The tileset I'm using is ultimately a modified Mario's Insane Rampage tileset.)

I'm a little surprised my shot is doing as well as it is - I didn't expect anyone else to really like it and it was just something I sort of threw together. I wasn't even going to submit it to SotW until I noticed how positive the reception was when I posted it on Discord... thank you all for the kind words!

Null voted. I liked all the other shots this week, too. I like the scene Kifstopher's portraying (I love the cool train tunnel), I like Mr.ReDead's usage of DoR (the overall layout of the screen is really good), and I like the vibe and mood of Shane's shot (especially the subscreen and the way color is used for contrast). My vote probably would have gone to Shane if I hadn't entered.

Mr. Redead I really like your screen and it's unique, colourful and wild. Looks like fun to explore! Now I would agree it feels a bit mix&match with all these different tiles on one screen, but I imagine that was your intention and this must be some very interesting place to explore.

I also really like the other screens here, especially Rambly's screen is very much perfect. I never imagined the Super Mario World tileset could be used in such a fancy way. I have played and do love Mario's Insane Rampage, but this design with the tileset is superb!

I do like Kifstopher's screen a lot. Is the playable character supposed to be floating on her broom? Then drawing some shadow under her could be good. The ground detail is perhaps a bit too busy for my taste.

Last but not least Shane has created an unique atmosphere, such a dark and gloomy palette, I especially like that the water is pitch black as if it's oil. And the campfire is fascinating, I want to sit there.

Surprise, I'm here to vote!

It was a tough call between Mr.ReDead's and Rambly's, but I ended up giving my vote to Rambly. I have to agree with Cobgoblin on ReDead's shot, while it does look nice, it could use a bit more congruity. Sometimes less is more, I myself am still working on that concept. The shot is really nice, but also a bit busy, and the different styles of trees don't really agree with each other as well as I'd like. Great shot, but I'm sure you'll do even better next time!

As for the other two, for me personally they're at a disadvantage because I do prefer the more modern graphics more, but I definitely considered them. Keep up the good work though!

It's cool to see people still working on this stuff, I hope to see more from you all. Good luck in future submissions!
