That's odd -- I just tested it and it works all right for me (tested in 2.55.8).
 
Did you already get the map? Items in treasure chests will still show up on the Lens of Truth even if you've already obtained them. If you need the cheat so you can give yourself the map, it's in the spoiler below.

it for the level  7 ??? coz i have a same problem with map level 7 the lens show me the map and when i hit the chest the map doenst be here anymore same if i enter and exit the room.

Sorry, I should have specified -- the cheat is a cheat for the entire quest. You can give yourself any items you're missing.

I don't really understand why this is happening... again, I'm having no issues obtaining the map on my end.
- What version are you playing on?
- Are you sure you don't have the map already?

Blargh. Okay, I figured out the problem. The good news is that the bug that caused it is fixed and will be available in an update that will be posted tonight, so it shouldn't affect future players. The bad news is the fix won't retroactively apply to anybody's save files -- if you didn't get the map in your save file, you'll have to cheat yourself the map. To do this:

• Open the cheat menu (Cheat -> Set Cheat...).
• Type seaweed...!!! into the box. That's all lowercase, three dots, three exclamation points exactly; no spaces.
• Hit Check. Click OK.
• Go back into the menu: Cheat -> Player Data...
• Go to the LItems tab.
• Check the first checkbox next to the 7, under the M column.

Sorry that's such a convoluted fix. There's not really any easier way to fix the problem, as far as I'm aware...

 

If anyone finds any other bugs, let me know. I'm fairly certain this quest has a lot of bugs that have yet to be discovered; playtesting wasn't exactly rigorous. (Before release, I was the only tester. Most of the bugs in the quest were caught by Alucard648 and SofaKing after release a few years back.)
