Chapter 4: Link Effects

Welcome to another Inside Chapters. We are going to look at Link Effects. This is the code name for the idea I had. Basically, I envisioned Link getting affected by his environment. Whenever Link gets affected, you would be able to see the effects. Hence Link Effects. I’m so… weird. Lol

Link gets affected by Fire in this game. Fire will burn burn burn Link. If you have any wood items, depending on their strength, they will burn as well. Hopefully you can make it to the water before they burn up. Link also gets affected by Ice in this game. Link will freeze and this will allow the enemies to continue attacking you. So evil I am.

Also, there are Mirrors in this game. Though, I made them so that they literally work the way they look. This combo is used a lot and it makes for some interesting puzzles because arrows bounce off of them as well. :D

Here is the video for Chapter 4:

Dude, with this progress going on, it already looks like you got the Quest of the Year award before the poll goes on! :P Excellent show today, I'm surprised you're already handling scripting really well also. Man, I'm so psyched and thrilled for this quest! Best of luck to ya! :D

Features, puzzles, scripts... are very cool and so... But when will we see things about the world itself? People loved The Hero of Dreams because was full of memorable places like Autumn town or Season Isle!

Yeah, I'm impatient, lol.

Another thing that I would like to know is music choices in the quest... The overworld main theme from the Hero of Dreams was one of the big selling points =P

Thank you.  :)   I did help with a lot my scripts in the beginning, but I learned a lot from those and polished a lot of things.  I am glad they work so well and can't wait to show more.   I still need to learn enemies (Autoghost), but I getting there.

Yes, I do think one of my strengths is the overworld.  I do plan on showing areas in certain Inside Chapters, however, I am trying to be tactful.  I don't want to give away too much, too fast.  I am currently am making an area in which I am very proud of, and it is killing me that I am not revealing it yet.  Though, I will in time.  I am thinking in April or May, you will be seeing another area.  But in pictures or video... I am not sure yet.

With the music, that will probably be the last thing I do.  Being honest, I haven't really picked too many choices.  However, in my head I am thinking of music choices.  I am actually thinking of seeing if I can do my own midi's... but on the other hand, would the learning curve be too much.   We will see but I am very picky so I will pick some good choices.

A doubt that I have since the first episode... it's the traveling between the barrels. Don't you think the gimmick can become "a bit old" later in the quest? I have a bit of afraid that the quest could suffer from that (like Spirit Tracks or Phantom Hourglass). I suppose there are a lot of traditional zones anyway. But I'm curious about how you will handle the barrels.

Btw, I love Donkey Kong Country.

As a designer you always need to think about, is this going to get repetitive. So that is why I had to brainstorm ways of traveling. This game's overworld is already bigger than hero of dreams. So, how do I make it so that you can travel fast and not boring? So I came up with a couple of different ideas. The barrels are not the only way you travel. However, with the barrels I don't want the player to have to do the same route all of the time. So usually when you complete a path a shortcut will open. Or depending on the items, you have shorter route.

You have all the little details well planned ;) I don't expect less from you. I'm waiting this quest for nearly a decade now, lol. Keep up that amazing work!

I'm just as psyched as Air Luigi, as I too have been following this quest for quite a few years now, awaiting even the smallest update, and stalking Shoelace on his youtube channel (ok maybe not stalking stalking ;-).  As impatient as I also am for this quest to be released, I want him to take all the time he needs to polish polish and polish some more, what will surely be a gem among gems of ZC masterpieces, a rival to even the best Nintendo-made games!  Hats off to you, and keep trucking!  :slycool:
