So, I'm going to try to get in a habit of doing these every week on Sundays to share the progress that has been going on. Since this is the first one, I actually want to share ALL the progress in this quest since May 2014, and though that was a while ago, you might find that I didn't really do too much on my quest. Ever since summer started, I really lost my motivation for ZQuest. I don't know why, but every time I wanted to work on my quest, I didn't feel like I wanted to and I'd have to force myself to use ZQuest, which isn't really a good idea in my opinion. About 2 months back I started getting my motivation back really slowly, and now, I feel like I'm gaining motivation a lot quicker. Now, I won't be able to work on this quest at all during school days because of all the homework and activities that I have every single day. Though during the weekends, expect me to be working on my quest quite a bit. :)

Anyway, on the the progress that I've made in my quest since May 2014:

  • Added a few secrets in the overworld.
  • Added more underground caves in the overworld.
  • Made a lot of scripts, including:
    • A Level 1 boss script.
    • A Level 1 miniboss script.
    • A few ghosted enemy scripts for the overworld and dungeons.
    • A LOT of secret scripts of which I will not share with anyone for the moment. :)
  • Did a lot of planning on paper for ideas, features, items, enemies, and scripts that I want to include in my quest.
  • Edited the story quite a bit to make it far more interesting. I will not share the updated version for now.
  • Fixed a lot of bugs that I found.
  • Made a few custom tiles.
  • Increased the complexity of the underground cave that you have to go through before reaching Level 1 to make it more interesting.
  • Added patches of grass in the overworld where they seemed appropriate.
  • And a lot of minor little things that improve the gameplay and screen design of the quest a little bit.

Now this is the list, but there are probably things I did forget to put on there. In any case, expect me to work on my quest a lot more! Hopefully I can get a demo ready for the expo so that people can play the quest and give me their thoughts and criticisms on it. :)

After doing a few calculations, I have determined my quest to be 52.375% complete! About halfway there. :)

Thanks, and see you next week! :D

That's an oddly specific number. How on earth did you calculate it to 3 decimal places? Regardless, glad to hear progress is being made. Good luck with the second half of the quest.

Basically, if you look at the description of my quest project, there's a place that shows the progress. There I have listed things included in my quest such as the Overworld and Dungeons. After those I have a percentage showing how much of that specific aspect of the quest I have finished. Then I just find the average of all the percents. :)

Quest progress percentages are very imprecise. I think it doesn't really work xD. You have to take in account that not every area and dungeon takes the same amount of time to complete, and even if they are finished, what if you want to rework them? Also, what about beta testing?

In any case, it's a quite impressive number. It's nice to see progress is being made and I hope to get a new beta file to test, soon ;)

I think they work. :P

For me it doesn't matter how long the dungeon is too long because I'm going to try to make them very similar (in the general sense). I'm just basing it off on how much of the dungeon I have completed, whether or not it takes me longer to complete them in the first place. And I actually did include beta testing in my calculations, if you go to the quest project description. ;)

In any case, my numbers are not exact; they are just an approximation.

Yeah, that makes sense. I must have overlooked finetuning and beta testing, though I still would personally refrain from using percentages to show off my progress. I prefer absolute numbers over percentages. xD
