Okay, so I am mainly making this review on the forums because I do have a lot to say. I don't want to fill up the Review section with a large article on one quest (even though tons of people already did that ). Eventually I might make a video review of this quest along with other quests I have played, but I digress.

Story:

So the Hero known as Zelos and his partner Rafell are out searching for the Mask of Truth. They go out onto the land of Plergoth, but Zelos soon finds out that others are after the Mask of Truth. The quest seems to include four different endings and to my knowledge, I have only ended up in three (one of which is actually the real ending  :slycool:). Not necessarily what you do to effect the story regards in choosing a desired path, but instead involves what item you end up getting, though I will go in detail about that shortly. At least the story knows where it's going to end up. Can't spoil too much in case there are some who haven't beaten the quest, but the category of "story-driven" does its job to what Eiyuu is supposed to be.

Graphics/Sound:

I believe this is the Dance of Remembrance tileset (correct me if I am wrong). Either way, you get a lot of atmosphere and because the overworld is separated into three sections, you do feel the connection with the world that you are exploring. You can discover new areas in the Myso Mountains, relax in the town of Plergoth, or venture through the treacherous, yet peaceful Winterfall. I don't know what it is about the caves, but whenever I enter just one of them to clear a sidequest, I get isolated with the hazards and traps only to exit out into the light that is the overworld I was just walking around in. Speaking of which, the overworld that the quest takes place is filled with snow. Seriously, I don't know if it ever ends or it was just a coincidence, but despite the beautiful, yet evil areas complimented from the season, I feel as if it can be tiresome and players might just get lost in all the white. The soundtrack is awesome. I get a kick out of humming the Myso Mt theme, Brace Dest, and Sanskrit Temple, while I relax with the ambient sounds of the cave theme, Winterfall, and the final dungeon.

Gameplay:

Brace yourselves, because this is the long section I was waiting for.

The main mechanic for Eiyuu is the Karma system. What does it do? It checks to see what item you obtained and decides if you made the right choice or not. Pick up a "Bad Karma" item, then you miss out on other items, along with getting one of the endings which could be the worst ending. If you don't pick up the "Bad Karma" item, you will eventually be rewarded. The quest does give you clues on what item can be considered "Bad Karma," depending on where you pick up the item in the first place whether it's from an innocent's home or from a restricted area. On the other hand, the so-called "Bad Karma" item can surprisingly come in handy throughout the quest. You can sometimes reach areas with ease or defeat bosses using the bad item you picked up. You can kind of experiment with these items after you start another journey and perhaps have a different ending, which I think encourages multiple playthroughs. In terms of level design, it's structured in a separate, yet interesting way. The overworld is cut into three segments (Plergoth, Myso Mts, and Winterfall). Plergoth is pretty much the town of the game. It gives interesting facts about the rest of your journey and overall decent. Winterfall is the area where you are to progress, along with almost every enemy really wanting Zelos dead! Lastly is Myso Mts, which is essentially the side quest area. You don't really need to do anything around there, it's all mini games, rupees, and heart pieces, with the exception of the last dungeon taking place over there. But man, can I just talk about the dungeons as well? They are so good! Brace Dest is structured as the first dungeon, yet you come back here after you have beaten the third dungeon. You also could progress further in between dungeon, which in this case always reminds me of the Temple of the Ocean King from Phantom Hourglass. My favorite dungeon Sanskrit Temple is so creative and complex, it makes me love the barrier mechanic even more and seriously appreciate the Stardust Scepter, genius item at its finest. The Flunge is a cave themed dungeon, involving falling pits to reach to a desired destination and a lock-block mechanic of all things  :tard:. I am seriously jealous that there is a really good cave dungeon, while not even boring like my Solflare Cavern. The dungeons are so good, I even love the one-roomed dungeon in Plergoth...though I do wish there was more of those in Myso Mts to test my skills.

Overall:

Well, everything seems to be intact and a lot of work was seriously put into this for so long. It paid off. My only issue is the difficulty curve during the second battle against Duke. Aside from that, I see so much potential for a sequel to be out soon with all of this creativity put into this quest. And you know what? Because the quest doesn't BS around, not having any janky enemies like Fire Gleeoks, Mirror Wizzrobes, or Patras and focus purely on game design along with the Karma system making the whole thing stand out, I will be blunt and say that this is the best 2.5 quest today. What Hero of Dreams did for 2.10, Eiyuu did for 2.5, both unleashing their full potential. I highly recommend this quest to those that want to stay simple, yet play something innovative.

Yeah, this thread is pretty old.

Someone just said that. You don't need to say it again.

I agree with you on every aspect EXCEPT for best 2.5 quest. I feel that award has to go to "Link's Quest for the Hookshot", for doing almost literally everything you can do in 2.5 with only ONE script, a measly pit script. This is definetely a second, and in terms of "Scripted" quests, this quest is certainly the best at using scripts.

It has 2 scripts: the pit script and a secret boss in a secret dungeon...
