I'm going to try to make regular updates on this. It should be every two weeks or so, or whenever I have enough stuff worth announcing. :heh:

Link's Hangover Status Report #1:

Summary: Level 1 done, finishing up surrounding areas. Finalizing Level 2 graphics.

Total % Complete: <10%

The quest is still miles from completion, but the direction is becoming more clear. I've made a few overworld areas, and have a general outline of the world map planned out, as well as about 5 of the (so far) 9 dungeons. Currently, the first dungeon is done (still need boss music though). The forest area that Link will go through before reaching it is also about 90% done. I need to draw three more screens, and add the NPCs for the small quest there to get an item to continue. The beginning area around link's house is 100% done, and the hub/ field area is roughed out enough to play up to the first dungeon, but it is far from polished, and finished. We're talking mountain, and grass tiles only. Level 2 is fully complete; using the Classic set, but I am currently revamping the graphics for the second dungeon*. This process is taking a lot less time than originally thought. Once the door combos are out of the way, making dungeon graphics is fairly easy.

I'd love to give a percentage of completion, but it's still too early to tell. I'd say it's around about 10%, and that's being considerate with it. There are no interiors done other than Link's house, and two caves. There are at least three interiors that need to be completed before a demo can be put out. The house tiles are done, and ready to go, I just haven't bothered making the areas yet.

* I said in another post that Level 2 would retain the classic graphics. This has changed.

Very well update, Anthus. This quest is shaping up to be extremely creative, and looking to be very fun to play! Good luck with progress. :)

On a critiquing note, Link kinds of stands out too much. He is made for Classic, yet your graphics are more SNES-feeling. I'd look for a different Link.

I do agree with Jared that this quest is turning out to be a really nice thingy. I was kinda suspicous of the first screens from way back when you were posting stuff in the OQSSCT but it growed on me.

Thanks guys :) I'm glad the set is growing on people, and more importantly, it is growing into a more cohesive style. I mean, I look at shots I first posted, and it kind of has come a long way.

As far as Link's tiles, I am open to any alternative that fits the style better. I picked this particular Link sprite made by Koh cause I liked the fact that the shield is accurate in which way it is facing (but this is really minor), and I liked how it marries the Classic and GB look, but I agree it sticks out too much. I am going to see how Link looks with a solid black outline, cause I think that might look better. I like the sprites on their own, but I don't exactly love them in this quest.

A proper black outline might do the trick. The cave screen where you've captured both Link and a Pojo in the screenshot shows how akward the differet outlining styles look next to each other.

I just lost my post :/ Anyway, yeah I went ahead and tried a black outline, and it didn't look any better. I just don't think this Link will work for the quest, unless I edit it to use a different shield, and sleeve color, cause those look weird in black. It makes Link look too basic IMO. I want to get a different Link set, but I'm not sure which yet. I was thinking NewFirst, AlttP, or maybe even my own Link tiles that I edited a while ago, but never actually used in a released quest.
