I have tried using ogg, wav, nsf, xm, it, mod and gbs files and an mp3 file.

To no avail do any of them work/play (Zquest and Zclassic v2.50 build 24).

I have placed the music files in both the quest dir AND the zclassics folder.

The midi is the only thing that will play.

Any help?

Thanks

You can put in Mp3 songs in your quest, just follow these steps below.

1. Put the mp3 file is the same folder as your quest.

2. Pick the Dmap you want the mp3 to play,

3. Go to the music section of that Dmap

4. Go to the enhanced music, and click Load.

5. Pick the mp3 you want there, and you're all done.

Note: If you're going to submit the quest, be sure to have the download link for the mp3 as well.

And that's how you do it. :)

I've done all that. No go. I just downloaded 2.5.5 RC2 and all music's loading fine in that version. But it's still a testing versions and things could happen. I wonder what differences there are..

Are the MP3/ogg/etc. files in the same file as the quest? That's pretty much the only way to get these things to work.

Yes. Tried both ways. In Zclassics folder and the .qst folder of the game. No good. As mentioned above, the newest test version Rc2 seems to work.

2.50 build 24? That sounds like an old 2.50 release candidate. There is a more stable (yet still a bit buggy) version of 2.50, but honestly, 2.5.1 RC2 seems to be very stable and worth using right now.

I'll give that one a try. I've used it once or twice. It seems to shut down slower than the other version.

Hmm let's see all I can think of would be that maybe it's a bug with that particular build. You should use the one from zeldaclassic.com. That's the most stable of 2.50.0. 2.50.1 RC2 is supposed to be very stable as well, but it's quite new and untested.

2.50 build 24 is a stable version of ZC 2.50 (and also the latest version AFAIK, excluding 2.50.1 releases of course). It's definitely not a RC version, and it's better than 2.50.1 RC1 as far as bugs go.

As for the original question, you can use .wav files as sound effects, but be careful as those tend to take a lot of space. For other formats you'll have to use enhanced music (which also takes a lot of space, but at least you can (actually must) put it in a separate file).
