I'm voting grated, HOWEVER, if I'm making something that needs to have Parmesan added while it's cooking (especially with lasagna or baked spaghetti), I prefer shredded.

I only prefer shredded on pizza, something else where it's cooked into it beforehand, or as a random snack by itself if I'm just in the mood for some Parmesan cheese. I've honestly never heard of people using shredded for randomly throwing on finished pasta before this thread. ![]()

Shredded all the way for my pasta, nothing but the finest for me. I do use grated once in a while but I mostly use Shredded for all of my pasta and pizza.

I do, because it says to refrigerate after opening. And also I'm afraid that the cheese will come alive and eat me if I don't put in the refrigerator.

Parmesan: Grated is my choice. Shredded seems too hardened for what I use it for.
But for something like Mozzarella, a softer cheese: I prefer shredded.
