And again I scripted a new engine in ZC, instead of working on my main quest :O

Block Smasher - Download link (playable up to Level 16 Level 23 or so) Edit: Block Smasher has been finished and uploaded to the database :D

No, this time it's no puzzle game and it's based off an old dos game. You are the ball and you win by smashing all blocks in a Level. The ball moves up and down automatically and you can control it left and right. Blocks can only be destroyed when your ball is the matching color and blocks with stars on them change your color. Also, don't touch the skulls.

The script works smoothly without any bugs but I got board after only a few hours and couldn't finish the game. The quest is unpassworded so if you want to make your own Levels go ahead. It's super simple: just place things from the combo table onto the Level but make sure you only place one ball and do not remove the outer ring of wall blocks.

I'll probably finish it in the future and add new block types, enemies or items and stuff if people are interested Edit: the game is finished  ;)

"Press A to die". *shudders* Does that mean within the game, or for real? ;)

I remember this game from back in the day. Looks cool, Avataro!

It was awesome and wish there was more. Problem is after level 16, it just kept going on and never stopped. I might want to create my own levels though.

Yeah it kept going on because after level 16 I didn't feel like making more. If you have any ideas for new blocks and features I'd be willing to add them to the script.

Well, I was thinking of teleporter blocks, when touching them it could teleport you somewhere else. And maybe you have to be a certain color to go through certain teleporters.

Another idea is that there are blocks that change your color, but are destroyed after you change, making puzzles a little harder.

One time changers are a nice idea. I just added them to the game and updated the questfile, in the first post. There are still no new levels, so there are now no levels that feature them. Teleporter blocks though don't really work with this style of gameplay I think. Have no idea how I'd implement that.

You could set up areas of blocks that are only accessible if you use the teleporter blocks. I think I remember some of the later levels of the original block breaker having something like that....

How about something that reverses the axis of the ball so it moves left and right and must be controlled up and down? That'd force players to rotate their minds a bit ...  Forgive me if that's already included, since I haven't had a chance to try the demo yet.

I think you should have a secondary way to increase your score. Maybe something like the bonus timer in Donkey Kong but minus the part where it kills you and makes it impossible to beat level 22. As it is now, getting a high score pretty much comes down to "don't die" and I think it could be much more interesting than that.

Okay, I did play the demo now, and I have a few additional suggestions. One is to vary the ball speed. This could take the form of the ball gradually speeding up as the game progresses, or else changing the speed on a case-by-case basis depending on the course. My other suggestion has to do with hazards. There should be more things that you don't want to hit.  Things like blocks that speed up the ball, or invert your controls, maybe?  Just my opinion, of course, but I think the courses would be more fun if they were either more like obstacle courses, or puzzles with a correct solution you have to think through to, rather than just clearing out blocks without much to stop you. It's a very cool concept and I'm excited to see what else you do with it.

Major update! New questfile in the first post ^

I've decided to finish this thing, with all 80 Levels and I have currently about 23 done. I will at any time leave the quest unpassworded, so anyone can do whatever they want with it  :D

@Lineas: I will think about teleporters. Maybe you are right.

@Aevin: A block that rotates the player? Wow, cool idea, but that would be kinda hard to include into the script, because a lot of lines would have to be changed. I only intended the ball to move up and down from the beginning and never though about making it move horizontally.

@Moosh: Agreed. I added a time bonus wich counts from 100 to 0 in each Level. When a Level is finished, the time bonus gets added to the score, so the faster you are, the more points you get ;)

@Aevin: I actually wanted to have a speed up button but it screwed up the collision detection of the ball, so I can't make him move faster than it already is. Will edit the Levels to make them more interesting and harder. I'll mix up the game with obstactle courses and puzzles, good ideas!

I also made it so that it's now impossible to cheat up your score by continuing or things like that. :D

I had some time today to work on this thing and it's about 7 Levels away from being done ;D

Will upload it to the database when it's finished. This gameplay style is really amazing and lovable.

Edit: finished and uploaded! This is my 6th!! 'scripted' type quest I've uploaded to dabase in a row. And I only have 6. I need to make some normal quests sometime :P

I beat it!

The gameplay elements were even greater here than in the Robo quest!

I died 26 times, mostly because death blocks in the end and I needed to suicide about 4-5 times. I didn't die till 20+ stages, when the death blocks started to be many/screen.

5660 is my max points, I got it from lvl 1 to 22 or so.

Seriously, some elements made me jawdrop! And the gimmick of the last world... Well, I wouldn't ever have expected that!

You said everybody can make up the story for themselves... While I didn't see a story in the ball, itself, the background and the music made me imagine some things, mostly with the feeling of Out of this World, Oddworld and some old space shooter arcades.

Think you could make a Brick game, too? You know, where you control the ball not, rathermost guide a pad on the bottom and it is what is used to control the ball and there are bonuses falling down from bricks, etc. Always that was my favourite.

And yes, you totally should make an action-RPG. With the same uniqueness and script power. Something wonderful could be resulted. I suspect you could make up stories of awe, if I remember your general discussion threads well.

Thanks ChastChaos, glad you liked it. All of the music is from Donkey Kong games because I really like the feel that these songs give, especially the forest in my opinion  :)

I could definetly make one of these Breakout games too. I think I will get back to Zelda games though, as I've got lots of good ideas too. My next quest will probably be not that story-driven though, but maybe I really could make nice stories sometime.

I thought of something that could be cool for any updates on the game, One time ball colors (Where the ball is one color only for one block smash). And awesome game
