Recently we started discussing the possibility of a new AGN Quest Contest. The idea has moved from an possibility to a likely project. With this in mind I think it is only right to extend an invitation to PureZC users to join in on the discussion.

 

There are more than one possibility for what the actual contests will involve and it would be hard for me to describe everything from the thread. I advise everyone read the discussion so far and preferably vote on the poll:

Obviously, it would be best for most of the discussion/suggestions/etc to take place in that thread. Unfortunately I can't tell you to only post over there because PureZC staff would probably get mad at me. Just keep in mind if something relevant comes up in the discussion here it would be best to post it in the official topic as well.

 

So why should you care about AGN's contests? Above all the goal is to get more quests available to the new players and to put it plainly, your quest could be bundled with ZC. What ever contests we end up putting on be it 5th Quest, a new more modern contest, a community based contest(and potentially a new non-contest project or revival of NeoFirst), or something else the outcomes will be packed with ZC and available to new players out of the box.

 

Help us make sure we put on a contest that you will want to be a part of!

I dunno if my post was a little off putting. Gleeok tells me the intended silliness of the last part of my post wasn't obvious. Typical of me while trying to be humorous. Just wanted to make sure you guys got involved.

There's a new forum at AGN for contests. We've started discussing an idea that was very popular in our poll. Basically a contest to create an overworld to be a template/base for future contests/projects. What do you guys think good guidelines and restrictions would be?

I am interested, but I fear I don't really have a complete bug free project.

 

With all my time going into Souls 2, I haven't had much time perfecting my Souls 1 quest, also, I am not certain Souls 1 (despite being popular as it was during it's day) meets the correct standard that I believe should be expected in a project of this magnitude. AGN deserves the best of quality, therefore I'm afraid i have nothing to offer at this time which I feel can meet the standard of quality I would give to AGN.

I also can't resist the urge to mention that this thread has more tags than a mattress superstore.



Basically here is the problem in a nutshell: As of version 2.5, ZC has no custom quests included in the download package that are ready to play right out of the box for the benefit of new users.

Up to 2.10 there was at least demo.qst, which was originally the work of Phantom Menace (He's the guy who first made Zelda Classic BTW) to showcase new features of ZC, but by today's standards only uses older features and was shelved during 2.11+ in favor of neofirst; a more modernized demo quest of sorts. Unfortunately neofirst was never completed.
The topic just kept popping up here and there in passing and was never fully addressed until now.

So far current ideas include (but are not limited to any one):
* A 5th quest contest to cap off the Nth quests and let the series go out with a bang.
* Updating demo.qst with scripted bosses, and some new things without removing any of what PM has done, or messing up the "flow".
* A quest with community generated content, developed by the Zelda Classic community.
* A neofirst-like quest, except that dungeon content is selected by a series of "dungeon-contests".
* Trying to resurrect neofirst and have it as an open project where anyone can submit content to it. (Probably a peer-review system)
* Some combination of the last 3 ideas.

I'm all for Neofirst coming back. I don't think demo quest needs to be tampered with. As for a 5th quest, I'm not too sure we need another official quest. I think something with more modern styling would be better.

I may have been drinking but I remember saying that was the point. The tags were part of it. Figured if I went over the top enough someone would get it. Here you come trying to sound all official. The option you didn't talk about is the one that won the poll and the one I was bringing up for input.

@NewJourneysFire I enjoy your input and work. At this point we are just talking. No contests are being held just yet.

@Fausch Is NeoFirst still modern? I am not against the community reviving it though.

With the more detailed input provided by Gleeok, I am more interested, but I guess there are alot of things about Zelda Classic I am still elusive to. Like I don't even know the purpose of 3rd.qst and 4th.qst, let alone 5th.qst

And neoquest, I feel so out of touch. I am going to look into this and learn more.
