New games are $100-110 in Australia... but it kinda evens out with the exchange rate.

I've noticed games getting more expensive, but I've also noticed EVERYTHING ELSE getting just as expensive. It's called "inflation", the more money that gets made the more things cost. So even if you're paying twice as much for games than you did 15 years ago, you'll probably also notice that chocolate bars have also doubled.

Another thing to bear in mind, is that todays generation of games take a LOT more time and money to make than the games of old. It costs the company more to make them, they can't make as many in the same time frame, so to keep the same profit margin they have to charge more for them icon_shrug.gif It's not rocket science.

I mentioned this in another topic about the same subject, but I was told it wouldn't play much of a part. icon_unsettled.gif I personally think this is the main reason why prices have gone up.

I'm with you... how can inflation NOT play much of a part? It affects everything.

Inflation definitely has something to do with it, but I think it has more to do with this mentality:
Person1: Hey, I got me an X-Cube 2!
Person 2: Me too! Isn't it awesome!
Person 3: Yeah! Isn't Ninsofty amazing!
Ninsofty: Hey guys! Look what just came out! It's the X-Cube 3!
Person 1: But I just bought the X-Cube 2... and your game system doesnt't have any games I want. *Does not buy*
Person 2: Eh, It's pretty cool, but I just don't feel like spending more money. *Does not buy*
Person 3: WAOWWW Cool! *Buys*
Ninsofty: Hmmm... our current system is only selling 1/3 as well as our previous system, so let's triple the price!

Actually, I think the mentality would be more like not wanting to spend a large amount of money on something that might fizzle out. Either that or most people want other people to get new untried stuff before them.

I would say that things have actually gotten better.

New NES games were 40
SNES and N64 games were 50 (in the first year of the N64 they were 60 - Turok 2 was 70!)
But GameCube games went back down to 40 as standard, and Wii games are anything between 30-40.

Some of them are getting too pricey for, say, a third-party, 6/10-ranked game, but in some cases, I'd be willing to pay the $80 that they're charging for most PS3 games.

Not at all!
Game prices are going down mighty fast in Hungary... PS2 games and Wii console is bought for mega cheapness! However, wages go down fast, too...

I don't think the game prices are too ridiculous, but the game system themselves are getting crazy! Sure the PS3 has a lot of stuff and new technology, but is anyone going to pay around $600 for a system that will be outdated within the next few years?

I think it is more the other way around. Person 1 buys the system so therefor Persons 2 and 3 want it. It starts an wave of interest. The company Ninsofty jacks up the price to make as much profit as they can. It's the American Way! -_-;;

My point precisely. It is infuriating! Just release super sweet technology, don't make something cool, release THEN try to make it better. Make the damn product as good as it can possibly be and release it to life for a decade. I'm already pissed about the release of bluray technology. If you notice, the discs cost way more than DVDs, to which some people still haven't converted.

I give up. icon_wacky.gif

Sorry if you're offended by this, but perhaps it has to do with when the prime minister lied about the economy?

So, videogame prices are going down because the communist party is lying about the economy? I must tell you, not even the contrary party tells the full truth about how broken this economy is. All of these would suggest VG prices going up, since every other price goes up. Except houses. Houses and VG becoming cheaper while everything else is hell expensive. You can buy a Wii for cheaper than a PS2!!!
