It was an homage to Spirit Temple, Cistern, Lanaryu Mining Facility and some elements of Ancient Tomb from Oracle of Ages at the same time, yes! Powder Kegs are deliberately overpowered as well. They serve as an 'out' for players who are otherwise just completely stuck on a boss and don't know how to beat it. That said, various mechanics make them (and the cane) less effective from the bosses in Level 11 onward to the end of the game. The last few bosses are where the kid gloves come off.I said don't tell me!
Ah, well, I probably would have just tanked it without figuring that out, anyway. And yes, I think using different tiles from the ones in the arrow rooms would have helped.
Spoiler
And am I the only one to notice how strongly Level 11 resembles the Ancient Cistern? Was that intentional?

Great, now I really feel like I cheated. (I'm sure there's a pay-to-win joke to be made here somewhere.) The advantage the Kegs gave against that boss was unique, and I probably could have gotten the same mileage out of regular bombs, but still...
(I didn't even think to use Kegs against bosses until that suggestion against the "hopeless" one, in case that wasn't obvious from earlier. I avoid using any form of non-regenerating ammo in most Zelda games whenever possible, which I realized by around the end of Level 6 just doesn't work in this one.)
Looking forward to the last few. I was brought to this quest - and ZC - by looking for custom Zelda bosses and finding a video of Stan, and, being a huge fan of The Binding of Isaac, I'm certainly not backing down now. (Or against anything in between, for that matter.)

I see what you mean - I reached Medusa.
I think you may hold a record for "most difficult fan-made boss relative to its BGM's original 'owner'". Seriously - Drawcia was practically nothing, but all those Bubbles make even the Cane nearly useless against this thing. (Especially the Cane, actually. Hit as you're bringing out the orbs? Great job, you just lost all your magic!)
EDIT: I think I get it now. The idea is to not get hit. Ever. Because half of its attacks later on can't be dodged without the Hookshot.
EDIT 2: Did it. Kegs were useless, but I was wrong about the Cane. (It might be stuck on, but it means you can go nuts even after getting hit, and Potions give you back all your magic, anyway.)
EDIT 3: Might as well add that a good chunk of my motivation to beat this (apart from Stan) is to get the music credits. A lot of the boss fight tracks are awesome, but I don't know where they're from, and apparently I have to beat it to get the full credits, so here we are.

I can't seem to find the last Piece of Heart.
By my count, there should be 4(30-12-3) = 60, but this (admittedly incomplete) walkthrough only lists 57, all of which I'm sure I have. Is the last one obtainable before clearing Level 12, or am I getting ahead of myself here?
(I do have that dungeon's item, of course.)
EDIT: Also, the final boss appears to have a nearly insta-kill attack that can't be avoided, but I think it can be canceled by doing a ton of damage while it's charging. Is that accurate, or do I have to save my magic for Nayru's Love? Never mind, figured it out.

Once you have the item from level 12, all heart containers are obtainable. As far as frequently missed ones go... off the top of my head, there's one required that item in the puzzle house in the Blue Woods. There's a cave containing TWO heart pieces in Southern Remdra at a dead end near a river, the second of which requires the power bracelet (people forget to come back). There's one in the area south of the Sunken Basic at the lower left corner of Northern Remdra, where you have to bomb a cleverly hidden spot on the ground. Then there's a couple hidden behind trees in the Remdra Skies. Do you have all of those?
If by "power bracelet" you mean the Gauntlets (the ones you get in the Sunken Basin), and you need the Sphere for the one at the southwestern corner of Northern Remdra, then yes, except possibly one of the ones behind trees in the Remdra Skies. I have the one immediately adjacent to a house, but I can't remember whether the one north of that (a few screens directly west of the bomb bag cave) was behind a tree. If it's not, then that's probably the one I'm missing.
EDIT: Just looked over the entirety of Northern and Southern Remdra. Found a couple of big blue Rupees I missed, but not the Piece of Heart. It's likely either in Remdra Skies or a prize for beating all the enemies on an overworld screen (possibly both, though I do have the one from the Lynels in the Skies). (To be sure, though: there are 2 squares in Southern Remdra and 4 in Northern Remdra that can't be reached, right?)
EDIT 2: Checked behind every tree and took out every enemy in Remdra Skies. Still nothing (other than 20 Rupees). Anything else you can think of? (Again, it's definitely one of the three not listed on the site I linked to earlier.)

gale boomerang makes phase 2 a joke. For phase 1, just use the wand and occasionally the hammer, don't let the little eyes pile up. It's deceptively tough, it feels like it should be cake, but it's not. I prefer to not use the hookshot at all for this fight, just take out eyes one by one, (never let more than 4 float around the room at once) and then just keep it slowed by the boomerang and fire wand at it every few steps. Once all the little eyes are dead, you basically win.

don't let the little eyes pile up.
That's where I was screwing up. It became easy enough (though still not as easy as the ones before it) once I stopped using Kegs and figured out how to (A) hit the eyes consistently and (B) dodge the fireballs while stuck in a corner.
Trying to tackle the Abyss now. (Also, I didn't get the music credits I was looking for when I beat the final boss - do you have those on hand, Evan?)

Which songs are you curious about in particular. If you go to Misc->Midis (or something to that effect) when you pause the game, you can bring up a list of the midis, most of which name their origin. I think I know where all the songs in the quest came from so I can name the rest that you're curious about.
Ah, didn't know you could do that. Found all the ones I was after fairly quickly - thanks!
...I've been in that room in the Abyss with the magic turret, giant Blade Traps, and conveyor belt over a pit for the past half hour. My reflexes don't seem to be good enough to get me over the belt, not even with Nayru's Love. :/

The final boss is refightable, so you can always see the credits again (which you'll want to when you want to claim the quest's final secret). Congrats on finishing Hero Mode's main game!Trying to tackle the Abyss now. (Also, I didn't get the music credits I was looking for when I beat the final boss - do you have those on hand, Evan?)

Thanks! (I was going to ask about that secret, though I figured that was what I was missing.)
Got through that room in the Abyss. Total time: 40 minutes. Made every single mistake conceivable, including destroying the turret only to get knocked into the pit right next to the switch trying to stop the stray beams.
No point in picking up the Staff when I already have the Cane, eh?
EDIT: Wow. You have successfully made a Zelda enemy more annoying than the Like Like. Getting hit by a Wizzrobe tornado means getting treated to the most agonizing death I've ever experienced in this kind of game.

Still struggling to find that last Piece. Went through the list here again, and I definitely have all of those. I hate to ask, but which ones aren't on that list?
