Oh. I see. It's the same ultimate reward as before, with a secondary way of obtaining.
Well. Kinda wish I knew that, hero mode has a tendency to bring out the worst in me. This file has 204 deaths because I deathwarped CONSTANTLY.

Level 9.
Hero Mode.
How!?
I see it's been done before, but, for the life of me, I can't pull it off myself. This is all the stuff I have so far:
Am I missing anything that will make this easier? If not, any tips?

It's not mandatory. The logical outcome is to die. He's hard but doable in Normal, but in hero mode you will need a lot of luck and a ton of tries. It only worth it if you are planning on attacking the extra dungeon, but later you can get the reward anyway.
Tips? Reflexes, superbombs, potions and pray

Yeah, I know you're not supposed to win, but I'm a masochist in that sense. ![]()
I do plan on attacking the extra dungeon. And I read somewhere that the version of the reward you get later isn't as good as the one you can get here - is that true?
EDIT: Superbombs, huh? How much damage do those do? I'm able to get him into his second phase about 5% of the time with a well-placed Hurricane Spin - would those finish him off (or close to it)?

The last time I played, it was the same reward (but you have to work hard to find the item in the extra dungeon). I don't know if there was some major changes after that.

Super bombs do four times your sword damage IIRC. So that's two hits with the hurricane spin per bomb. The real benefit is the range though.
The difference between the two canes isn't that significant. One has two beams, the other has three. They spin so fast that the starting positions of the beams is the only real advantage. The one with three beams is a little easier to hit with when you're button mashing the cane to conserve magic I think.

Good enough for me - he seems to take about 10-15 spin hits in phase 1. Thanks! Now, excuse me while I go max out on those.
EDIT: And now I can't seem to get him into his second phase at all - the red shots are almost impossible to dodge when spinning, and they don't always seem to aim at me properly (biased toward the centre of the screen on the vertical axis). Still trying, though. It blows my mind that someone managed to pull this off after just half an hour.
EDIT 2: It's 10. He goes straight to the second phase after 5 bomb hits. If I can just reach that with only the Spin and no significant damage, I'm golden - but that's a pretty big "if."
EDIT 3: I DID IT. Didn't need to use potions, either - just a couple of Spins, a full bag of super bombs, and a run where he didn't use the red or yellow orbs in phase 1. The bombs definitely made all the difference - thanks, guys!
EDIT 4: Aaaaaand the game froze as soon as I was done posting about this. Didn't get to save. Insert extremely long, profanity-laced rant about how often this happens here. (Disabled the screensaver - I think that's what causes it.)

ZC 2.5.1 is a bit better about the freezing issue. As of the most recent update, IoR should (in theory) work fine in 2.5.1.
Good to know. Is there anything I should know about switching over, or can I just unzip everything into the same folder?
(Did it again, BTW, and saved this time.
Needed potions, though.)

Alright, cool, thanks.
Another question: in the room in Level 10 where you get the Compass, every part of the floor not immediately adjacent to the entrances damages Link. This effect persists regardless of how many Zols are still alive. The Lens of Truth doesn't reveal anything. Tiles similar to these ones appear elsewhere in the dungeon and are harmless. What's happening?
EDIT: Never mind - unless it's my first guess in the spoiler, don't tell me. I'll figure it out when I get back.

I said don't tell me!
Ah, well, I probably would have just tanked it without figuring that out, anyway. And yes, I think using different tiles from the ones in the arrow rooms would have helped.
And am I the only one to notice how strongly Level 11 resembles the Ancient Cistern? Was that intentional?
