I've seen in various things around the web that people have acquired some sort of

blue cane or staff

seemingly much earlier in the game from where I'm currently at but I have yet to acquire it myself. Was it only in beta stages our have I missed something rather obvious and should feel somewhat dumb?

The blue cane and the staff are the same item. The blue cane is obtained by winning the second fight against Venser and the staff is found inside the postgame dungeon. You have been collecting those cursed skulls, right?

Indeed I have! 19 so far and I'm on level 12 where I assume I'll find one more. Incidentally I found two keys so far one led me to night, the other led me to another locked door and more confusion.

Sincerely LOVE the quest btw!

Which key did you get during the night state of the dungeon? There's one on a pair of platforms and another for solving a block puzzle.

Remember at night all the waterfalls that were blocking your way have frozen over.

Block puzzle. I can't figure out how to get to the one on the platform. I think I have to fall into it but I can't find from where.

You did open the staircase to the right of the platforms during the day, right? If so, just climb up there and up the frozen waterfall and drop onto the platform.

Yeah I just figured that out after having an "I'm an idiot" moment lol.

HaHA! Finished level 12, I have all 20 (though I don't remember where or to whom I need to bring them), and got my

sword upgraded!

I still have a few more heart pieces to collect and then final showdown here I come! (I'm assuming. With this quest it's entirely possible and plausible that another eight levels are hidden and waiting for me lol)

Is there a way to perhaps disable when you press select/pause that it changes your A button item? If I ever open the menu or try to look at the map, it will cause my A item to change.

 

The quest is great (just beat level 2), but that will become pretty irritating when I have more items than I currently have.

Do you maybe have start and select mapped to the same keys as Ex1 and Ex2? This quest uses L, R, Ex1, and Ex2 to quickly cycle through items so that could be what's causing it.

This is a commonly known issue with the way controllers have their default mapping set up. Just reassign them (or completely unbind them if you want) and you should be good!

Fire an arrow into the shield looking thing on the same screen to open the entrance.
