I will happily rate it at 4 1/2 stars shortly.

The overworld transport issues are a bit tedious  but otherwise this is a very imaginative and somewhat challenging quest...most enjoyable.

That piece of heart requires the Strength Glove, obtained in Onox's Lair. At least, it will until I update the quest; which I'll probably do later this evening. 

 

I could create a list of all 25 Crystalline Flames... but I won't post it here. Instead, I can send you a PM once I have it ready.

 

Also to be included with the update:

1. All keys are now level-specific, so you can't save one from one dungeon to the next.

2. Some minor tile and block placement errors have been fixed.

3. A bug in Level 18 where you could get stuck if you went the wrong way has been eliminated.

4. It is now possible to shortcut back to where you need the Roc's Feather in level 18 without having to trek through the whole dungeon again.

5. Hamiltonian Path puzzles in the last dungeon will now be solved permanently once you've completed them once.

6. The talk to people button has been changed to Ex1 and there is now an explanation of how to talk to people at the beginning of the game.

7. The characters at the end of dungeons will now speak with you, heal you and warp you out automatically when you approach them.

8. Enemies should now make sounds when hit and when they die. (Don't know how I overlooked that.)

 

I'm leaving Kholdstare alone since people seem to be able to get to the end of the game, even though he's buggy. Maybe I'll change the boss there later when I either (A) have more scripting knowledge or (B) find a better foe to put there. (Such as from upcoming enemies of the month.)

so basically...I should just skip Kholdstare and just go to Level 19?

 

at any rate, i did officially beat the game....2 deaths, 13 game hours.

I d/led the update. However when I pick up a key, it doesn't update the key counter on the subscreen. I was able to go through a locked door. But now I'm not sure how many keys I have.

What? ... Oh, man... I missed a really obvious bug by switching to Level-specific keys. Namely, the counter on the subscreen was set to register only normal keys. Sorry about that. I've just uploaded an update where the new keys will now show up. Hopefully, I didn't miss anything else.

 

And yes, skipping Kholdstare if he's buggy for you is perfectly acceptable. I'm still mulling over how to deal with that problem...

SPOILERS!!!! And bug info Or possible TOO OPness

 

 

i got to level 18 and encountered a bug at the boss. i had 25 of the Fire Crystalines the last sword i think everyhting else required with the side quest of trading complete. After i got the boss out of the Ice i one shotted each of them and ZC Stopped working i could still here it and tried f6'ing it but it wouldnt work and i would know cause i've encountreed something like this just not as bad before. I wasnt able to continue. after i restarted i was set so far back at least 2 dungeons and some extra items i needed to pick up. i had also planned to lp this game if it wasnt game stopping bugs. and i do relise that i didnt save before the boss which was bad on my part. Could you tell me if this was a Bug or just something the Happend because i was too OP.

I'm really enjoying this quest, but now I'm stuck in Din's Sanctuary. I can't get to the boss and can't find the bait. I've been through this place many times and can't figure it out.

Tricky, tricky... there are two pieces of bait in the game. One is here.

You don't actually need that bait until level 17, Din's Sanctuary. The other piece of Bait is inside Din's Sanctuary.

This is one item that some had trouble finding, so I placed a NPC in level 16 to clue you in to the fact that the Bait could be found there and had the NPC after the dungeon ended mention that you'd need it. But to get it, you have to be close to the end of the dungeon anyways.

 

There's a sign in level 17 cluing you in to open the box with the second piece of bait.

 

Here's how to get the bait. It's a bit far back in the topic, so you might have missed it.

 

As for the boss of level 18, the only thing I know the recommend is to make sure you have the latest version of Zquest. A lot of other people have experienced this bug, but I don't yet know how to fix it.

Yes, that is definitely a bug. Just ran a quick check of all my other multi-floor dungeons and there's only one other error like that in the quest as far as I can tell. I'll be uploading a corrected file today which also fixes a flag issue i forgot to address before, related to push block puzzles.

No problem. Those multi-floor dungeons have given me more trouble than any other area in that quest. (One reason I cut down on them in my latest project.) That being said, this has to be the fastest I've ever had an updated quest accepted to the database.

 

I should also note, since this has been mentioned a number of times by others who posted to this forum, that Kholdstare (the boss of level 18) doesn't seem to be buggy in 2.5.1. At least, when I played through I didn't have any errors with him. So far as I know, that's the only foe in here who might have a bug in earlier versions. (Of course, there are plenty of other bugs in the foes in this game; but at least they let you defeat them.)

I am replaying this quest with the new update. I got to Level 18 boss (Koldstare). After I killed him, the game froze. After I restarted, I lost all my progress back to the previous dungeon. I guess this bug was never fixed.
