Sounds like a bug. I'll look into it.

EDIT: Huh. It appears sound test doesn't unlock correctly on Easy/Very Easy. Should be easy enough to fix (pun intended) though. Expect this to be fixed in the next patch. If your sound test breaks in the update, just kill the final boss again and it will work properly.

Thanks! "Easy/Very Easy" was hard enough for me. And plenty, enjoyable, too! After a breather, I plan on trying at least normal mode/not so easy. We'll see what blighted abyss does to my motivation...

So just a heads up, Blighted Abyss is not affected by easy/very easy mode. So if easy or very easy was giving you any trouble at all, Blighted Abyss is probably just gonna chew you up and spit you out. That place is mean.

There are two items. There's a replacement Cane if you didn't the first one (Although from what you've told us, you got there on the bugged build, so you're okay). There's also an item that makes you more or less invincible if you can beat the bonus boss.

Are there any heart pieces in dungeons? I have 3 left to grab for my 100% and a sweep of the overworlds hasn't turned up much (I did find a load of rupees from killing every enemy though)

Well this is embarrasing. I think I broke something and there isn't any legitimate way to get the last 3. An update was just rolled out, so go ahead and pick it up to fix this. I've moved the last 3 from their initial (broken) position to ensure compatibility with existing saves. I also "fixed" the last boss hint shop. >_>

The new locations are:

Thank you, thank you. I'm a bit ashamed I dropped trying to do flawlessly on these boss fights, but I noticed that after a point I wasn't really having fun trying and it was much more enjoyable to get my ass beat around.

 

I have a third playthrough to do in the coming weeks, gonna beat hero mode so I can check out that secret for beating blighted abyss. And possibly many more to come after. I've been getting these horrid ideas to try and speedrun this game.

Yeah, I completely get not doing flawless boss fights. Between ZC's inherently broken hit detection and other quirks, some of the bosses, some of ZC, that seems like it could be extremely frustrating.

The update will be in the database here, yeah? The quest still says it was last updated in february, do I need to wait for a few?

I suppose this explains where the last 3 were I could never find at least. I'll be sure to update later on.

Thanks for the compliment, but even with the bugged build I wasn't strong enough to get the cane early. I think I got it after level 12.

At the moment there's no way to rematch him. I'm planning on updating the boss (there's actually a minor bug that needs to be fixed) and adding a new death animation, so I'd probably change that in that update him. Additionally, due to the way flags work in ZC, he's perma dead on that file no matter what. When you kill him initially, you set the Blighted Abyss boss flag preventing any enemies from spawning in that room. There's no way to work around that in an update.

On the other hand, I added another enemy type to Sunken Basin!

The mirror shield puzzles in level 11-  there are 2, fairly close to the start which have me stumped. I do not have the mirror shield yet and cannot solve them. Do I need the mirror for these or can I get a solution please, It is a game stopper for me.

Any puzzle in level 11 with beams of light shining down from the ceiling requires the mirror shield to solve. To get the mirror shield, you're gonna have to make your way to the corrupted basement floor first, which requires two keys. One is fairly obvious (go left from the screen one north of the start), the other requires a keen eye (you have to light a torch in the room one screen north of start and then go right to get it). Once you have both keys, you can go straight from the start to reach the basement, and from there you'll eventually make your way back up to the upper floors and across some moving platforms to get the mirror shield. All the puzzles will then become solvable.
