Well, I've beaten level 12, returned to the Prismatic Gate and beaten Venser for the cane, and beaten the Hall of Memories. Is there a final, final boss? I thought he was in the Blighted Abyss. Thanks.

Blighted Abyss is a bonus dungeon only, has no bearing on the main game's outcome other than gaining a nice item and a special treat if you're on Hero Mode and beat the final boss again.

Maybe because I don't have all the skulls, the little portal doesn't open the skull door where "the cursed skulls react to the room, and it shakes, but nothing happens." Is that where the Blighted Abyss is? And yes I went back and beat Venser and his "true form," saw the final credits, and was returned to the beginning. But the guy in the hole with the funny buttons says, "come back when your adventure is over." So I guess it's not over.

You need 20 Cursed Skulls. They're only found in dungeons and minidungeons. If you beat one of the boss arenas, you get a nice item that lets you know if the screen you're on has a cursed skull. As for the sound test not working... that's either a bug or you need all the cursed skulls to get it to work. I haven't started the Blighted Abyss yet but it still works for me.

I thought I beat all the arenas. Here's all my stuff. Do I have the "nice item" that lets me know if there's a skull in the screen?

I believe so yes, the shooting star item, middle of the third row. It should play a sound like the Ocarina of Time hover boots and the screen should shake when you're on a screen with a cursed skull.

the screen should shake when you're on a screen with a cursed skull.

I wondered what the hell that was!

Sounds like a bug. I'll look into it.

EDIT: Huh. It appears sound test doesn't unlock correctly on Easy/Very Easy. Should be easy enough to fix (pun intended) though. Expect this to be fixed in the next patch. If your sound test breaks in the update, just kill the final boss again and it will work properly.

I should pick this up again sometime. I'm still too early in the game (Level 3) to give a solid opinion/rating so far... Say, when do things kick in?

level 7 is where I feel the game gets amazing, but the bits before it have their moments too. level 5 boss is a definite highlight, and level 3 is also very good

I personally love level 4, and the whole part around there (the entry into Northern Remdra) is where I'd say the game starts picking up, but I've found that level 4 is kind of a Your Mileage May Vary level. So I dunno.

For me, it's like this:

Overworld: A great effort, but it is average for the most part of the quest, really. Scripted stuff saves the day, basically. Works well in the first half of the quest, but then the overworld disappears a bit...

Levels 1-3: Quick and fun.
Levels 4-6: COOL, specially L4. Probably the best moments in the quest.
Levels 7-9: Pse, pse, the enemy variety hurts a bit the experience and the dungeon aesthetics suffer a letdown. Levels start to feel a bit too long. They are great levels even with his flaws, but here I realized that the quest would never fill my ridicolous high expectations. I enjoyed this part a lot more in my second run, though.
Levels 10-12: The most creative and unique levels. New items! I loved the atmosphere in L11 and L12 is a masterpiece, quite fun to figure.
Level X: Stan *.*

I'm happy that there's no universally "bad" part of the game. I built each of the levels on a wide variety of design principles, so hopefully there's something for everyone.

Best be trollin, this was my favorite segment of the game, close behind 11-12.

10 is one of my least favorite dungeons, next to level 1

EDIT: In my video series, I've decided to no longer do perfects as the norm. It's becoming increasingly more clear that the game really DOES have a difficulty curve boss wise, and I'm hitting the point where I can't really keep up. I imagine Lumen 1 and Metal Arghus are the only two I know I can do for sure now. I suck. =B
