You got any tips for the 2nd phase Gogol fight Jamian? I'm trying to beat him on hero using the Cursed ring, and I can't seem to reasonably deal with his 2nd phase without taking damage. Any suggestions?

There are no secrets, you must be patient and wait for that good opportunity to attack. Trading damage is not worth it in this fight. Also, Hero mode + Cursed Ring? You're a masochist.

I think Lejes beat Hero Mode with the green tunic and fought Gogol with the cursed ring.

Okay, I think I might be able to beat Gogol on Hero Mode using the Cursed Ring. I am going to stream it there now in 5 minutes.

Just finished the "Plant Cavern" last evening. I gotta say, the entrance of that dungeon is epic. The "Plant Cavern" is probably one of my favorite Zelda Classic plant themed dungeons of all time.

Current progress, defeated Auga and Project Azura. Great boss fight! I'm making an extra save file for easy access to refight this boss.

 

This is just a hunch, but something tells me this quest has some scripts in it.

If by "some scripts" you mean that this quest is almost more of single big complex script than a quest itself, than ya, this quest has some scripts in it.

 

I'd suggest you take on the Cursed Ring challenge when you fight the final boss. You simply gotta wear the Cursed Ring when you fight the final boss. You'll unlock an optional ending if you do so, and it's a fun challenge. It's not that hard. 

 

Since you made a save file for Auga. I'd recommend wearing the Cursed Ring while fighting Auga for an extra challenge. If I had my time back, I would have fought her again with the Cursed Ring and uploaded a video of me doing so.

Emperror Gogol on Hero Mode+Cursed Ring should deal 4 hearts damage (8 with only green tunic) and on third phase, he should spam previous attacks (bombs and column fireballs, Hero mode only) and Fire Gel summons should be replaced, again on Hero mode only, with sword-only enemies to make jinx more dangerous.

I found a glitch. The glitch involves the water gun. There are flames the need to be put out by the water gun. If you put down your bait anywhere on the screen where a fire can be extinguished by the water gun, the water gun will do nothing until the bait disappears.

Time for me to write my review of this game! I have something to say about each of the seven major dungeons in this game. Lets get this party started! Warning, this review contains spoilers.

Overworld

 

This overworld has a ton of secret passages in it! I'm glad you gave us a song that helps us know if there is a secret in the overworld because I missed quite a few of them. Your dungeon entrances where quite epic. I love the huge castles of Level 3 and Level 6. Even Level 4 and Level 5 have cool looking entrances. Heck, the entrance to Level 1 is actually my favorite. Another interesting and unique part of your overworld is your gasha seeds. So much soil ever where. I actually found it fun playing the plant song to determine the quality of the soil.

 

Level 1

 

I will say it again, I love the entrance to this dungeon. In fact, I want to steal this idea for myself. There was a lot going on here: from the hidden trees, flowers that make Link move in a certain direction, the different usages of the plant song, the deku leaf puzzles, and the mushrooms. There is probably more, but that is all if can think of right now. The mini boss can be exploited if Link hangs out at the very top of the screen. The mini boss can't reach Link if he is there. Not a problem, just an observation. I had fun here and it wasn't too difficult to figure out.

 

Level 2

 

Out of all of the levels I felt this one was the most bland. This isn't a bad dungeon, but I didn't see this one as outstanding. The music aspects were interesting for unique puzzles. The magnet is an interesting item, but I didn't find the magnet puzzles to be spectacular. I actually really liked how you had to use the magnet item against the aquamentus and second boss. That was really fun. The second mini boss is probably my favorite mini boss in the game.

 

Level 3

 

This dungeon if the first dungeon in the game that I felt was a little more complicated. What I mean by complicated is how the player has many different places to go, but only one of them is right for the time. This dungeon much larger than the first two and the quality is still there. I found the poison mechanic to be interesting. The arrow puzzles were quite fun despite being super easy for me. I like how you set up your ghoma battle with the arrow blocks. The old men that shoot bubbles are quite annoying, but are very simple of one explores with trying different weapons against them. Don't be fooled by their wizzrobe movement, they are not wizzrobes in what they are immune to. From this point on, I found it interesting how you gave some  annoying enemies a weakness. This dungeon taught me to use every weapon I have on different enemies. Oh, I took my first death at the third boss on Hero Mode. He trapped me against the corner and ate me alive. The boss can be cheap, but just keep on moving and it isn't too difficult to manage.

 

Level 4

 

This is were the difficult starts to spike; especially on Hero Mode. Enemies here do so much damage. I love how you trolled the players by putting fake blue tunics in the dungeon. I found two of them. I wonder if there are any more fake blue tunics. The swimming was interesting. I don't think this game had the smoothest controls for swimming, but it works. I feel link moves too slow when he isn't actively swimming. The mini boss and dungeon boss are well done. To be honest, all of your bosses are well done. Navigating the water current is an interesting mechanic that I've seen with conveyors before, but not with water. I also liked where you put some of the diving spots in this level. Not all of them are plain obvious.

 

Level 5

 

How to get on my good side? Make a color themed dungeon. I found the concepts of this dungeon to be quite interesting. The ! blocks seem to be one of the major focus points. You have them turned on at the beginning and you hit switches to make them disappear. This is like an opposite Super Mario World. The ! switches are not the only color theme of this level, you took it much further. The red, green, and blue blocks played quite a role. Both in puzzle and combat. The random light was quite interesting, but could get a little irritating if the right color doesn't show up. Your color monster enemies were very unique. I loved how they vanished when they go over their own color. You had rainbow themed puzzles in other places in your game, but this dungeon takes those rainbow themed puzzles to the next level. The red light green light room was cool. The boss was really cool. While the Minotaur was a fairly simple fight, I liked the idea of him changing his weakness. While I really liked all of the ideas in this dungeon, I'll admit I was mentally exhausted by the end of it. You have to pay close attention to details to find keys, and I had a bad habit of rushing past the same areas over and over again.

 

Level 6

 

This dungeon, while I took me less time to solve, was much more difficult than the previous dungeons. The homing cannons and flame throwers were quite mean. I actually had to be careful here. I love the police robots that work like Mario 3 ghosts. I'll be honest, I really want to make that kind of enemy for my game. I'm guessing they are not actually enemies, but FFC combos that are assigned a script. The police robot that comes from off screen was an interesting touch. It really made it clear that moving to the next screen wasn't safe. I love your robo dodongos, and I am tempted to steal them. Lots of great battle scenarios here. The real stare of this dungeon is the first boss here. In fact, this boss is probably one of my favorite bosses in Zelda Classic history. I even made an extra save file just so I can fight this boss again. Good job Jamian. While the tank boss was also good, the first boss was more fun for me.

 

Level 7

 

To me, the look of this level didn't look like a final level, but it definitely played like a final level. The difficult goes for a final spike here. I had to play extra careful here. It feels like a red tunic dungeon. This is not a problem as I like it when enemies and obstacles are really dangerous. There are traps ever where. I also liked your eye ball enemy. I also really like it when the final dungeon makes you use all of your items from previous dungeons. Even if you only used every previous once or twice, you still made the player use them. That, to me, feels like the dungeon is giving the player a final test on what they have learned. It can be easy to forget what you learn as I almost forgot I had the magnet. The ghoma battles here were well done. The final boss is also an interesting and unique battle. Making the player push him into the spikes adds a unique battle puzzle that I don't see to often. While the final boss was over all a good fight, I felt the difficult got easier with each phase. I honestly feel like the first phase is the most difficult and the final phase being the easiest. That is my only criticism with this fight. 

 

Other Stuff

 

You gasha seed system and ocarina system is what makes this quest stand out from all of the rest. You did a great job with the ring system and how many rings could be used for specific scenarios. Yes, I didn't use too many rings, but the ones I could of used would of made my journey a much more pleasant one. I was just too lazy to walk back to the ring guy most of the time. Even in the Wizzrobe place, I didn't go back to the ring guy because I was lazy. The ring system reminds me of the mask system for Majora's Mask and I wouldn't be surprised if that game was an inspiration for your ring system. You also did a great job at the usage of songs in this game. While most of the items were only used for that specific dungeon, a decent amount of songs were used though out the game. This game has a ton of content. Another unique aspect to your games Jamian is going up and down stairs. I love the side view hallways going between floors. 

 

My only major criticism for this game is when you go between floors. The side view sections were fine, but when you appeared on the next overhead section, you appeared in the middle of a room full of enemies. While this isn't initially a problem, I had problems finding Link in a some of the rooms and almost got killed from time to time. Let me explain, while going up or down in a side view section, my eyes are focused on Link. When Link appears in the next overhead section, Link is at a different place from were my eyes are previously. When Link appears in a room full of enemies, I have to take a second or two to find Link. That is enough time for enemies do to damage to me. I felt it was cheap. This wouldn't be a problem if I didn't have to shift my eyes to a different part of the screen when going up and down stairs, but I understand you can't do that well with the side view parts. I would just say don't have Link appear in a room full of enemies, if you still intend on using your side view transitions between floors in future games. 

 

Oh, the water gun item was interesting. I like the boss fight, forgot its name, but you know which one I'm talking about. It honestly felt like this item was added in last minute just to make an interesting boss fight. I don't have a problem with it, but I felt like it was just thrown in and forgotten about. Even more so than the other items as I didn't even use the water gun in the final dungeon. Maybe I didn't explore with it enough to find other uses outside some caves in the over world.

 

The story is good. I normally don't play Zelda Classic games because of the story, so I don't place the story as an important part of my review in Zelda Classic games. With that said, it is nice to see something beyond Gannon and the Triforces. The villains are your own original villains and I liked how all of them wanted to betray the main villain. Having a league of traitors gives each villain their own unique personalty to them and that was a breath of fresh air. The cut scenes did their job and they were not not overbearing.

 

 

 

Don't be fooled by the amount of levels in this quest. These 7 dungeons are very in depth and will take time to solve. Not only that, but there is so much to do in between dungeons. This quest has both quality and quantity.

 

The music choices were appropriate. Good music selection Jamian!

 

With all of that said, the issues with this quest are not enough to damper my over all experience at all. This quest is truly one of the new legends in Zelda Classic history. This quest shows the player what scripting can truly do when done right. My over all score for this quest is 5/5! Great job Jamian!
