Go to Snowfall Village. I believe that to get in the Village that you need to trigger a switch on top of a waterfall to lower a block blocking a time gate that leads to the village.
Okie where can I find the blue ring and Level 3 sword?
Dungeon of Trials #2. To get there go to the starting village gate and go one screen left. Push one of the bottom row rocks to get entry to the time portal that leads to the trial.

First you need to dive in the waterfall to find a hidden switch. It's two screens west of where you enter Glycov mountain (or one screen west of where you meet the goron that tells you about the chest)
There are two paths on the west side of the mountain. Go through the cave, use your pegusus shoes to bash through the petrified flowers, and go up the stairs on the other side. At the top is a switch you'll need to activate for later.
Then go as far west as you can go on the mountain, and up the stairs. You'll see a slime trapped in the top right corner of the screen. Throw your magical boomerang diagonally to kill it, and it opens the way up to upper part of the mountain.
Explore this new area, and you'll come to the place where you activated the switch in the cave. Go down the stairs there, and you'll find a portal.
Now you're in the upper section of death mountain. Go up one screen, right one screen, and then up a screen. You will see two crystals. Where they intersect, place a bomb. This opens a hidden path that leads to snowfall village. You'll need the first song to navigate another portal, but then you will find it.
The raft shop is unmissable. Once you've spoken to the Goron, you'll need to get wood from Glycov forest, and then return following the same route as above.

I had a funny feeling that would be the case. I'm guessing my best bet is to work through level 6 first to find whatever item i need (maybe the magic book if it is in this quest) OK thx.

It's not a wall; The passage you're looking for is hidden under a bombable floor tile. Seek out the four crystals around the lava lake, then bomb the floor where the imaginary lines between them cross. By the way, try diving in that same spot in the present after you've gotten the item from Level 8 for some other shinies.

My advice? Go through level 6 until you get the second item, then leave the place to go to the second DoT. The boss becomes a lot easier if he doesn't kill you before you get a chance to learn his patterns. something which the items from DoT2 will help with immensely.. Similiarly, I would've strongly advised you to leave Dungeon 7 as soon as you get the hammer from it and seek out some better gear/level 8 (and per extension DoT3). I haven't played the update where that dungeon's boss got nerfed, but he was by far the worst enemy in the game, easily beating out even the final boss.

I think i may have messed up a key sequence or something, i can not make any headway what so ever with turtle rock. Anyone have any ideas? I have looked at all the maps, and still nothing. Any help would be appreciated. I would hate to start all over, i love this game so far.
Edit:
nevermind. after a bit more thorough looking at the maps, and some trial and error, and maybe dumb luck. turtle rock is done. the only question i have is how to get the chest behind that energy beam looking thing

That's not until quite a bit later. The source of that beam's energy is in the northwest section of Turtle Rock, which you can't access at this point in the game.

So far for me this feels like an official zelda game, hard as hell if you don't know what to do, but really easy if you do

Time to find Level 7. I'm on 63 deaths (which I might consider not too bad considering how challenging this quest is), 13 hearts (i think there's 2 HCP left).

What is the secret to this switch? I've tried to get to it with and without the Pegasus boots, but I just miss the timing.

Thanks! (Great quest, btw, Obderhode!)
