Is it possible to snag the clique medal without taking the flippers? I want the medal, but I also want the grand magic, which I cant get if I get the flippers. Help?

I decided to make the Clique Medal only available as a double whammy with the Flippers, mainly so the Flippers had another draw to them.

Ah D: Well, that's incredibly unfortunate. Why not make it so that the Peril Pendant trades places with the Clique Medal, but still make it so that the Medal still coresponds with the Fife? I don't want the Wind Fife, and I would prefer it's bad karma equivalent because the Fife becomes useless with some searching, the same way that the Red Candle can be obtained differently through searching. However, I would like that Grand Magic container, because that extra boost of magic would be incredibly helpful later on in certain end game dungeons, especially once you get the cane of byrna.
Would switching the Pendant and the Medal while still making them still correspond to the same item be an easy change to implement? I am guessing that you are using room carryovers for the items, so it would not be too hard? Or are you using scripts to do that?
Edit: Offtopic: I am making a tvtropes page for this game ![]()

Funny enough, Wind Fife was originally bad karma and Peril Pendant was originally good karma; I switched them at the last second because bad karma was too overpowered when the play testers were going through the original. The irony ended up being the secret shop flipping that right back...I probably should have removed that at the last minute. It made more sense to keep it when I was going to have the Grand Library be an actual level, but now it just kind of sits there and trades a pretty full wallet for overpowered items. But since the secret shop also takes forever to actually access, I haven't let it affect my judgment on the other items too much.
I don't think I'll break the current setup though, given the extra potions that can be bought with the Clique Medal (if I pretend people don't F7) and the Blood Note existing. At this point, if I changed it, it would probably just be easier to make an alternate entrance to the cave. The items themselves are just carry overs but some of the triggers to open the house, the dialogue related to the Pendant, etc, are things I'm too lazy to change. Though on the note of the Pendant itself, I may up the amount of hearts it requires...that way it offers more than just one or two extra hits.
I think I decided I'll save any improvements to the karma system for a potential remake, using the original day/night and choice systems that I couldn't fit into the two-week contest build. Basically once the two-week quest contest ended, I morphed the game into its adventure counterpart with some smaller choices here and there to accommodate the difference in gameplay. I'll be building Lost Lineage first, though, since it's the bigger quest.
TV Tropes? Interesting haha. I love that site...easy to lose yourself for a few hours just kind of reading through things.

I might give it another shot. Either way, I'll go check out the Dojo. Thanks Russ.

On the topic of an alternate cave entrance, I would be up for that! You could make it accessible through a screen secret that activates with the blood note or something, so you can only get it later in the game. Of course, that is up to you.

If a remake involving a hidden secret entrance to get the Clique Medal (if I'm reading this right) is used, why not do something even harder than the soul game puzzle that eventually leads to another secret shop that sells the flippers and the clique medal, or maybe just the clique medal and some other random item?
Obviously the medal should be very expensive (500 - 800 Rupees), and the path to the secret shop should require strategic use of the Flame Boomerang, the Paradox Hover Boots, and the Mirror Shield. That way, cheaper potions are available before Soltis, where they're most likely gonna be used up the most.

Russ is right, Ed; shame we don't have the usual item from the Trifecta of Truth, though that might make it a bit TOO easy to figure out.
Shame there's no books to help with this puzzle, but maybe a certain cane can help you, as well?
