I don't mean to be nit picky in my posts. Just little things I note when I play through a quest. If it was something major, likely other people would have caught on already.

Oh ... I just realized how my post must have come across. Sorry, I really wasn't targeting you. I was just concerned my own criticism might seem nitpicky.

In any case, I agree these issues are pretty minor and don't ruin the experience as a whole. It's your call if you want to aim for that update 744, bagel. ;)

Ok, just finished a 2nd pass through this quest. Still learning some enemy weaknesses, and later bosses seem to be more tanking than anything, especially with Ganon

Some small things noted

1. In these 3 examples, the chest is colored blue, but contain red potions, which I believe were the default potion

These appear red to me in ZC/ZQuest already. They should be showing up as red, There's not even a palette conflict or anything; they should be red. o_O

2. These chests in these two examples are plain colored, but contain blue potions

Whoops, I guess I missed a couple.

3. [ice block thing]

Mostly that ice block is there to be like a "Hey, look what's over there!" kind of thing. It's mostly designed to get the player to want the item more as well as encourage a little bit of wandering around lost if the player hasn't been paying that much attention.

4. Another very minor thing here. Not sure if the thick block in the lower right corner is supposed to be hookshot-able

Yes, it is. That's why it's there.

I'll see if I can figure out what's going on with the pits, and submit update 25 sometime today.

Edit: Pits are fixed. The problem was that there was an old conditional checking for Big Link (which I obviously don't use) that wasn't set up properly. I removed the conditional entirely in favor of just a Y+8 and now I can do this:

So referring to the above post:

1. Yeah, not sure why they show up as blue when playing the quest.

3. Fair enough, it's not too much backtracking anyway, so not that big a deal.  Would get people to think by now "Ok, I know what I'm getting here."

4.  Some reason the block in the lower right is NOT hookshot-able when I went through that room (one could just fall in the hole I suppose, lol)

So it turns out something bizarre was happening and I'm not sure what was going on, but the red-colored chests were trying to use the blue tile (2 combos to the right) when they appeared. If I deleted the blue chest entirely, the red chests would show up as tile 0! No clue what was going on. I set up new combos instead and replaced all the chests. I tested each one of them.

I've submitted a new fix:

  • Colored potion chests should all be the correct color now
  • Pits will not suck you in from the top any longer
  • Some blocks that should have been hookshottable were not
  • Removed Herobrine

When the fix is up there will be no notice on the main site or forum sidebar. I'll edit this post when it's live.

EDIT: It's up.

This room here is very unfair. Has anyone got any tips? I think I'm missing something about it. I got through it once, using a red and a blue potion, but I died afterwards. I wish the doors would stay open permanently.

Other than the steep difficulty, I'm enjoying this quest all the way. It's more combat-focused than anything, but I liked the dungeons anyways. My favourites are Level 6 and some of the earlier levels. Where can I get the golden sword? :)

If you found the rare item shop (check near the Palace of Darkness for a location where you can use the Magic Mirror) you can get a better boomerang and a way to obtain the gold sword. The magic boomerang works well on those deathknight goriyas and it can kill antifairies.

magic boomerang is a godsend with those death knight goriyas

should suspect where to look for gold sword (think of LttP).  just need a bit of cash to get the supplies.

Doing an LP recording of this quest now.  Some of the potion chests are kind of this weird turquoise chest sprite, but whatever.  Already know which potion is in the chest.

I beat the quest. Damn, that was really nice! Towards the end, the quest got really powerup-dependant though. That's something you should fix in quest 745 ;)

But yeah, thanks for making this quest, Bagel.

good luck beating Agahnim and Ganon with those conditions, lol.  I can barely beat those two bosses without needing to go to potions

I'm stuck in Skull Woods. I've managed to use a key in every lock except for the one that leads to the Big Key. I've scoured every room on the map and killed everything, but no other secrets are appearing and no keys are being handed out. It's starting to look like this is a design flaw that nobody caught during testing.

B1

Key 1 one room above one of the entrances

Key 2 one room above the map

B2

Key 3 in chest on left part of map

Key 4 and 5 in separate rooms in upper left corner of map

Key 6 on right side before getting to boss

Should only be 6 locks, and boss key behind its own lock with no key behind it
