So finally the twelfth dungeon. I figured it would be one of those complex ones like Prismatic Gate. It was indeed like that, but the flow was a little weird. Like it felt as though you have to switch between the two states far more times than Prismatic Gate needed. And usually for just like a small switch or too. (It's possible I could've been doing it wrong, but it wasn't exactly clear where to go unlike Prismatic Gate was the first time.) While Prismatic Gate was a bit tedious, it was quite more enjoyable since there were a bunch of mini puzzles here and there, plus enemies weren't too much of a nuisance beyond the Bombrobes and Firerobes. This one while not exactly terribly difficult with the enemies added to the tediousness to this level. Teleporting Mirrorobes? I was kinda like "Really?" Not that they're absolutely a terrible idea, but they're very tedious to deal with, especially with 5+ of them with the other enemies. We also had the return of the Charging Darknuts from Prismatic Gate. I didn't mind them there, but here they're placed in the Maze path that you have to go through quite a few times. I know it's splitting enemy behavior to respawn every time you re-enter a room, but couldn't you put something else in the Maze room that doesn't respawn? I'm not taking more time to kill 8 of them each time I need to go through that room. While it's no Level 10 in confusing and tediousness, it's fairly difficult to get to where you need to be. Prismatic Gate was like this too, but the enemies generally let you by. Here you'll be bombed by Lakitus until you just wanna Super Bomb the idiots and pushed off ledges by Mirrorobes if you don't take the time to kill them every time you need to go a certain path. There's also a certain bubble that spawns in the rotating square of giant traps that has knocked me off the ledges countless times. Another note of hatred goes out to the Windrobes who love to combo you into permanent drunkenness. Even more fun when Link decides to go left and right on the edge of the screen during it.
There were some neat things here, like the Sphere block puzzle which I somehow overlooked the solution for a while and the next day got it on my second attempt. There's also another ice block puzzle that was kinda neat although a tad easier than the previous ones. Atmosphere of this place was somewhat here and somewhat missing. I was kinda expecting a little bit more like Lost Isle's Sky Garden with a bit more of a world up there than strictly a dungeon that's more or less simply in the sky. The nighttime with ice idea was kinda neat, although it could've used a few more instances of it. Having it snow up there and some more ice related things would've been cool.
With the boss, well I didn't use the sphere and you could probably see why I felt it was unfair. I'm not really sure how the player is supposed to know to use that still. Last fight with her, the dungeon item wasn't really the key to beating her. I had 7 attempts with no luck, I go to mess around and I kill her with just the Wand.
I can't help but feel a little bad for her. I take it her original role was to be evil but was changed post expo build.
It took me around 6 hours to do this dungeon if you need a timeframe as well. I was kinda tired of the place by the end. Between this and 10, that's probably a good 10-12 hours there with just those two dungeons.
