Just a quick update for anyone who plays this quest:

 

The 2.55 update is now the only supported version.

Any future bug fixes will be applied to it.

If using an older version of ZC, things might break,

Player discretion is advised.

Exactly which version of 2.55 is recommended? Cause in all the versions I tried so far, there are several bugs starting with Diabolical Factory's switches borking Din's layer placement and walk cycle.

If you want I can list off the number of bugs I encountered, but for now, it seems that the 2.53 version is more stable.

If you want I can list off the number of bugs I encountered, but for now, it seems that the 2.53 version is more stable.

I used 2.55.0 for my testing and adjustment.

I have tested most of the game's mechanics and bosses with no issues, though not as thoroughly as when it was originally released.

I will try to fix anything that goes wrong as best as I can.

I am wondering if the problem is on my end. I am running ZPlayer through Steam without ZLauncher cause my wired controller sometimes disconnects and I have to restart the program to reconnect.

I'm gonna set it to wireless and just use ZLauncher and see if that makes a difference.
I'll let you know what I find.

Edit: Nope, still borked. So I'll list off the bugs I found in my playthroughs of destiny255.

The subboss of Level -1 can be tricked into jumping off the platform for an instant kill. I suspect it may be a bug because it has a strange tileset of itself and a woman npc beside it as it's falling.

The cutscene when activating the switch in Level 1 to progress Level -1 shows what's opened briefly but then suddenly cuts to another room in -1 while playing the L1 bgm.

Level -2, here's where I confirm that all the bugs are present in all versions of 2.55. Hitting the color switch will stop Din's animation cycles and have her appear in front of layers such as the pipes and trees and maybe more. Hitting a color switch again will set things back to normal.

Level -5, theres a door that takes you to a void room.

Not sure what triggers it, but after getting the item in Level 7, Nauru will sometimes constantly flip her sprite upside down and rightside up. She stopped after clearing Level 7, but at some point between Level 8 and -8, she did it non stop and restarting doesn't fix it.

And to a lesser extent, getting a defense upgrade makes the quest icon blank in the file screen.


While these bugs and more are getting worked on, might I suggest an option to download destiny253 in the quest page?

Nope, this is because I forgot to make it where he can't fall into pits. Should be fixed soon.

I'm guessing that you mean the switch which activates the secret in the other world? 

I will have to look at it and see what's happening.

I haven't seen this myself, but will investigate.

I think I know what's causing this. The cliffs you can jump down set a state which causes the jumping animation.

And the script doesn't set it back.

Should be fixed next build.

There's literally nothing I can do about that. Those tiles are hardcoded in how they work AFAIK.

I've always focused on moving forward rather than back. 

Whenever I find new bugs or oversights, I squash them rather than try and revert to what came before.

I'm sorry that you have experienced these difficulties, but I will work to alleviate them.

Okay, I checked the part where you trigger a secret in another world and didn't see anything odd.
Also, I confirmed the bug with Din's animations stopping.
When I fixed the one with "forever jumping" that was fixed too.
I'm pretty sure I know why.
I will update the database copy soon.

What I mean with the void room is it's a blank black screen where Din can walk around when you enter one of the North doors. Din can exit anywhere on the south side, walls be damned.

Without knowing which specific door is at issue, it's extremely hard to pin this down.

Can you perhaps take a screenshot and post it on Imgur?

 

I always appreciate feedback on my quest and try to improve them.

I was excited to play this but got locked in the 1st level because the key that spawns in Treetop Terrace  spawns over an abyss so it's impossible to reach it. playing the latest version of your quest; using ZQuest version 2.55. Is this a bug or a feature?

Which key? There's a couple that either require you to defeat all the

the key before you can access it.

everything for bugs, just sections with heavily scripted
elements to make sure that they work; so it's possible that I overlooked something.

the key before you can access it.

It's the one in the far northwest sector of the dungeon; same room as the giant yellow chest; it's a room with 3-4 bats.

the key spawns right away, but you see the little puff of smoke that appears when something falls into the abyss, and so the key is impossible to get because it disappears into said abyss.

 

I used a cheat code to bypass the door so I could progress, but basically it looks like the key's spawn point is just a little too high so it spawns 1 square above where it needs to, which is a square with no solid ground. I'm not 100% sure but I hope this info helps.

It does, actually! So, the short version is that how holes are handled changed between ZC versions.

Basically, the combo directly above the item is a hole which now causes items to fall into them.

There's actually another pit and key which has this issue.

I will address this in the next update.

Oh, where is the other key that does this, and when's the next update?

gotten through the first 4 dungeons on both characters so far, and haven't run into any other issues apart from that I don't want to put it down. haha!

There was another one in that dungeon which falls from the sky after you defeat the monsters.

If it didn't vanish, then good! (The fewer questions we ask, the better. :whistle: )

 

The next update is generally whenever a bug is reported that stops gameplay (like yours) or I fix or enhance more than 5 things.

So it could be tomorrow, or never.

ha, fair enough.

 

the only other bugs I've run into so far are just visual ones. 

 

1. the Gale Fruit and sometimes Day's Light, both show up as half-filled hearts when you cast them. They function normally despite this visual anomaly.

2. the Master Boomerang is invisible about 90% of the time. it also functions otherwise normally, and is easy to track if you snag items with it, but it can be difficult if you're trying to hit a switch or something.

3. when Din picks up a rock or a bush and then throws it, it usually just disappears, but sometimes there's a weird shadow and random effects on the top left of the screen regardless of where the character is on the screen. Like the other two items, the mechanics of lifting things works fine, just that the visuals are scattywompus. 

 

Oh, and after getting the Moosh Feather and backtracking to level 1, the other key you mentioned (that drops from killing all the monsters) spawned just fine for me.
