edit: did quite a bit of work on it all this week. I implemented all of the changes I mentioned a few posts back, but I am almost positive I had a bunch of stuff on a list to do last year that I seem to have misplaced. thus, I am sure there are plenty of things that are not quite right. also, I have made it significantly easier by giving you one dose of the good goodness before the first tough battle. I have finished the dark forest. I think it's ready to play through. so, I am asking for testers. it would be excellent if I could get the help of people willing to take notes on good/bad/ugly and errors. even better would be if somebody could stream their playing live for me to watch (would leave my hands free to take notes and whatnot), like Sephiroth did for me a few weeks ago. well, holler!

test version (8/4/10) is linked in a reply below.

Out of curiousity, how changed is it? If I played it a year ago or whenever, would it be worth a replay? Or is it essentially the exact same game with a few tweaks and bugfixes?

it is fairly different, but there is nothing too drastically altered. there weren't many "bugs" so to speak... but I did fix a lot of things that didn't seem quite right to me. I am very much hoping somebody will point out more stuff that needs work, as I am about as motivated to work on it as I'll likely ever be. I made the first couple of levels easier and severely changed the dark world (made it necessary, even). the order of items is different, especially at the start. maybe try it out and see if it holds your interest. it wouldn't hurt (on my end!) to have somebody playing through with the old ways in mind. well, your call, but I know how I feel about it -- please play it!

MAJOR UPDATE to HowHigh includes: a new dark forest, new subscreen graphics, reordered items, new message strings and so many little things that I couldn't begin to detail them all. there will be more work done before I resubmit this to the database and I could use help identifying things that need adjustments. if/when you play, please take note of any quirks and report them back to me.

-do the items look right when held aloft?
-do the message strings make sense?
-are the sound effects (like water noises and whatnot) appropriate?
-is there music (I hear none) and is it appropriate?
-do enemies appear without getting stuck?
-do the push blocks work when they are supposed to and not when they are not supposed to?
-does the new (severely under-tested) dark forest work?
-is anything out of place?

I hope to have this thing "done" before it is a full decade old! holler.

edit: for 1.90, only, folks. thanks for looking.

Has anybody beaten this quest with newer players than 1.90 ? - Does any of the later 2,5 players works ? icon_unsettled.gif

I think the problem you'd encounter the most with a 2.X build is that you'd get stuck in doorways occasionally enough to be both manageable and annoying. save and copy/backup often enough and you might be fine, but only play it in 1.92-2.X if you cannot get 1.90 to work.

Hmm....looks a little bit familiar...maybe I have tried this earlier, but probably given up because it´s to difficult. Anyway, giving it a new try, playing with 1283 player and it works fine so far. Have got 5 hearts, killed the 1st gleeok in level 2, have also killed a patra somewhere, visited level 3. Have only 1st sword, no shield..no idea how to go on. Have tried to find tips in this thread but my english is poor. The only way to go on looks to be the 4 headed gleeok in level 2. But with 1st sword and no blue ring this looks impossible. Can I get better items for now ?

what is holding you back in level three? I think that's where you need to be. it is definitely a tough game, but if you have a controller (and aren't just using a keyboard), it is totally doable. I'm around for a few hours if you need me. here, in the PZC chat, by email, on the phone, if you can/want to broadcast yourself playing... whatever's clever for the next endeavor, I've got your back. thanks for playing!

Is this quest hard? I may try it to see how long I will last. But how do I download the new file, can you please place the file at a non-troublesome location please icon_smile.gif

sure, but what is trouble? can't you just download it? I don't have an account there or anything... has it reached a download limit or something?

the four-headed gleeok in 2 is kind of pointless. maybe I should get rid of him (or make him a three! there are threes, right?) as he is almost totally pointless. any ideas for what should be there, y'all?

thanks for hosting it there, too!

Cosmofield showed me a door problem in level nine (using a 2.X build) that I will investigate for the next revision. thanks to Cosmofield!
