Hard to believe it's been more than 10 years since this quest was released. Of course it's difficult, but the quest is/was extremely innovative in how such difficulty was implemented. This was the first (as far as I know) quest that forced the player to (among other feats) fight a fire gleeok while trapped in a like-like, dodge red wizzrobes that don't appear/attack simultaneously, kill darknuts using reflected wizzrobe beams, and accumulate rupees from gambling to progress in a dungeon. Even the compass in level 9 plays a more important role than you might initially think!
