I agree with everything what NewJourneysFire said. :)

You are trying something different, I really appreciate that, but you need to balance things out better. I also think that the sword does not work well at all in this type of quest. What you should give the player instead is a projectile weapon, like a gun or something, to make for a combat like in Mega Man for example.

I like the graphics and the ideas for the enemies are pretty nice too. I've actually never played Metroid, but now you got me really interested into that game's graphics. I should use them too for a quest sometime xD

Other than that, I really think you should tone down the difficulty. Add more savegame platforms, have an indicator that you can actually save there and have hearts drop more frequently. Most importantly, take away the sword and give out a projectile shooter! After that, add more gimmicks to the areas. Have puzzles and interesting obstacles or add a story. These are just recommendations and I hope you'll consider them at least.

Here's part 1 of my playthrough so far. More videos will come sooner or later! https://www.youtube....h?v=aaGH_1ZLcho

I played this earlier.

Your were watching! ;)

Anyways, I like how this quest is designed as far as side scrolling goes. But there are a few design choices I am not a fan of, and there are things I just don't like about this demo. Things I believe which can be easily fixed.

One big problem we have here is that there is no indication that you can save in this quest, in fact I didn't even think you could save until you told me there were places you could save.

It could be though of my ignorance towards how Metroidvania style quests work.

I am really not a fan of 2d games where you have to select your jump button. I believe it adds to gameplay to have jump associated to another button, such as the ext buttons, or in case of my quests L and R. Even coolgamer is using a modified version of the script I gave him (which was originally designed by the same designer that's building another quest project here).

Either way, the side scrolling action can be fun, but without a proper plan, I fear this quest can eventually grow stale. I am not certain yet of this demo, so for now I give it a 3.
