I just wanted to let everyone know that it seems our chat network, initialized.org, is currently down. I have no idea why, but I'll share the word when it comes. I expect that the downtime will be brief, but don't [quote] me on that, please.

Commentary

I know there are submissions in the database, but I don't have the time to process them, with this being the last two weeks of my college semester. I imagine that someone with the time will get to them. This update is going to focus on... well... stuff we've pretty much said before.First off, I really wish that the news archives worked for everyone (all the old news postings are still present, just not viewable by anyone except site staff). It would avoid having to repeat this stuff once or twice a year.
Anyway... I'll begin with discussing commentary. Simply put, the commentary I've noticed lately has been going down hill. I could probably sum it up as "download the content before rating it!" The submission doesn't have screenshots, so you are not downloading it? Don't rate it then! The ratings are not there to rate the screenshots: they are there to rate the content.
There are times when I wish we forced people to have more than two sentences for a rating to combat this, but we don't do this. However, I cannot tell you how annoying it is to have some random guy knock your rating down because you don't have screenshots or the screenshots are not the best in the world. For all you know, it could be a staff fluke or perhaps the quest maker didn't know how to use our database very well? But no! ZC requires all quests to be bundled with a fantastic quality .GIF file to be playable.
I would like to note at this point that tiles without screenshots are the fault of the staff most of the time. In cases where the tile creator doesn't give a screenshot, we usually make the screenshot the source tiles.
We've been going fairly easy on commentary because we don't have all that many people on the staff scanning comments daily. I'll take this opportunity to mention that you can report bogus comments! However, these comments must truly be bogus. Harping on someone just because they didn't like your submission is not reporting a bogus comment. A bogus comment would be rating the quest maker instead of the quest or the "no screenshot" deal I described in great detail above. There are other instances of bogus comments. Use your best judgment on this.
As a final note about comments, I'd like to direct people to a thread Espilan made on our forums that is a very helpful guideline in making decent commentary.
On a random note that has also been said before, the shoutbox is not the best place to get support. Granted there is nothing wrong with trying there, shouts are highly disorganized and get wiped out every 24 hours, so it would be better to use the forums.
Thanks for taking the time to read this. Regular content updates should resume after this update.
