Contest Results!

Posted by Aevin , 10 Feb 2017
Throughout the month of January, we've had several contests happening to recognize members for their achievements over the past year. From Screenshot of the Year, to Map of the Year, to the Superlatives awards in numerous categories, the voting has wrapped up and the results are finally in! Congratulations to all the winners, and the runners-up, too! Lots of these people are clearly committed to quality in their work, so you might want to check some of it out!

This past month has seen four new quests. First up is Avataro's Thinking Without Logic, a puzzle platformer that encourages you to think outside the box, and is inspired by the Portal universe. HeroOfFire's Legend of Pokemon Warrior is a metroidvania that combines some elements from Dragon Warrior and Pokemon, promising a bunch of content. Zelda 1 BossRush Remix, similar to its predecessor, has you challenging Zelda 1 bosses, with a few new features such as difficulty modes this time! Finally, Shane and Avataro's Rite of the Storm, a metroidvania that deviates significantly from the Zelda formula, originally for Jamian's theme contest, has been polished and submitted to the database.

That's all for this month. I hope you get a chance to try some of these quests, to see how the makers' hard work shows through. Happy questing!

New Year, Superlatives, and More

Posted by Aevin , 05 Jan 2017
Welcome to the first PureZC monthly update of the new year! The new year is about looking back on the previous year and reflecting, and looking forward to the possibilities of the future. In that spirit, we have the Superlatives awards happening this month!

The Superlatives are awards for the PureZC community to celebrate achievements from the past year, both in Zelda Classic and the community at large. Nominations are open until the 18th, and we'll open voting shortly afterwards. For full details on the process and how to nominate or vote, have a look in the Superlatives forum.

We've got to other end-of-the year contests happening, too! Map of the Year is underway, with polls for multiple brackets open, representing the past year of Map of the Month winners! Go vote in the polls to narrow it down to eventually decide on Map of the Year!

Screenshot of the Year will also be coming soon. Have a look through previous screenshot of the month winners in advance here, to decide who you'd like to vote for.

We recently introduced a change in the rules for the Let's Play forum. You can read about the change here.

Finally, let's talk quests! We have four new quests since the last update, so check the quest database if you're interested. First up we have Yuurei, by ... nobody important, really. It's a Metroidvania quest with lots of playable characters and custom items. Nightmare's Zelda NES remastered was a 5th quest entry that offers multiple difficulty settings, and aims to expand on the classic feel. Link and Zelda: Panoply of Calatia is a quest where you can switch between Link and Zelda in an adventure full of puzzles and custom items. And lastly, we have Zelda 1 BossRush by LegendOfLink, which is ... pretty much what it sounds like, letting you fight through a gauntlet of the Zelda 1 bosses with multiple difficulty settings.

That's about it for the past month ... and the past year, for that matter. I have a feeling the next year's going to bring some good things. We here at PureZC wish you all the best for the coming year.

Exciting Stuff Ahead

Posted by Aevin , 06 Dec 2016
Welcome to the PureZC news corner! It's been awhile, and so we've got a lot to catch up on. Let's get right to it.

First of all, two of our site's administrators have retired. LinktheMaster, PureZC's current owner, has retired from his admin role. Nick has also retired. Each of these people have contributed in a great many ways to the welfare of the site and the community, and have worked hard to help make PureZC the best it can be. Thanks to both for their hard work and dedication. Both will be around the community a bit, so don't worry about them vanishing completely. This leaves three active administrators here - Russ, TheSatellite, and myself.

While Nick and LinktheMaster's presence on the staff will certainly be missed, I feel our admin team and the staff team at large is composed of caring, hard working people who are more than capable of keeping the community running smoothly. Except for that Aevin guy. What a slacker. Can't even write a site news thing just once a freaking month.

We recently received some site updates, which most notably affected the database. Ratings and written reviews are now completely separate, so you can write a review without leaving a score, or vice versa! We've also updated the star descriptions for clarity, and clarified some existing rules. The first time you rate or review a quest after this update, you'll be asked to accept the database guidelines, first.

The Enemy of the Month contest now has two new hosts - Anthus and NewJourneysFire! Why not stop by the forum to vote or participate in the contests, and see what changes the two of them bring? Congratulations to both of them for being selected. We're confident they'll do a fantastic job.

We've had five new quests come out since our last update. HeroOfFire of Randomizer fame has produced Turtles Hate Candy, which originated as a 2-week quest but took several years to finish! Speaking of randomizers, he also put out Randomizer Returns, which aims to take a different approach to the concept. Link's Generic quest by Bombos is a small, classic-styled quest that can be completed in one sitting. The Dark Treasure by Cedric is a large game with several bonus dungeons! Finally, we have Quest 447, from Ben, the creator of the popular Quest 744. From a musician of Ben's caliber, 447's custom soundtrack sounds promising!

Looking forward to the next few months, there's a lot of exciting stuff ahead. I know of several new quests that are likely to hit by the end of this year or shortly after. The Superlatives are also coming up soon. For anyone who doesn't know, the Superlatives are awards given to recognize achievements both in Zelda Classic and on the forums here. We'll open nominations near the beginning of January, so be thinking about who/what you'd like to nominate or vote for.

That's about it for this update. I hope you all have happy holidays. See you next year!

The Fall Expo is Here!

Posted by Aevin , 09 Oct 2016
The Fall Expo is now open! This year we have 16 entries for current and upcoming quests, a scripting library from grayswandir, and a ... um ... "something" from Lunaria! Take a walk through the Expo here to have a look at all the cool stuff, ask questions, vote in polls, and see what creators have in store! I hope you all enjoy the show! :)

We received three new quests since our last update. First, we have the Bagel Meister's Retreat to Crumsc, a mini-quest in the classic style! Next up is Lunaria's Enter the Golden Aquamentus, a brief puzzle-focused adventure. Finally, we have Magic and Fantasy by King Aquamentus, an NES-style quest with a unique graphics style and a variety of custom tiles.

The PureZC Superlatives will open for nominations in a few months. You've still got some time, but start thinking about who you'd like to nominate for awards for nearly all aspects of quest production, and forum awards too.

See you next time!

September Update - Expo Coming Soon!

Posted by Aevin , 06 Sep 2016
Welcome to PureZC's news corner. Here's a quick rundown of what's been going on in the month since our last update.

There's been a few changes in our staff team. Russ has been promoted to administrator, while Nathaniel and Evan20000 have been moved to moderators. If you haven't already, why not drop them a congratulations? All these people have been part of the staff for years, and we have confidence they'll all do well in their new positions.

The 2016 Fall Zelda Classic Expo is open for submissions! You can submit just about anything you've been working on to show off at the Expo. Quest projects, tilesets, finished quests from the past year, and even plans and outlines are all welcome. Submissions are due October 2nd, so you have plenty of time - but watch out, or the date might just creep up on you. Have a look in the Expo Submission Guidelines for full details. The Expo opens a week later, with several members planning to stream the entries. Whether you're submitting an entry or just looking forward to browsing, we hope you'll all look forward to the Expo.

Three new quests have been submitted since the last update, including the popular Nargad's Trail: Crystal Crusades. You could also check out the newly-submitted Nehe, which focuses on the candle as a main weapon, and 4 Temples 2: Fate of the Triforce, a sequel to the original Kivitoe quest. Be sure to also check out the scripts, music, and other parts of the database for anything you may have missed.

Thanks for reading! We hope you all have a great month!
