To begin with, include the dependencies (listed at the bottom) and set up the CONFIGs at the top of the script as instructed by the comments. Most important are the ones for default slash, charge walking, and spinning animations. Once these are set up, compile and assign the slots. There's quite a few of them. Either use auto assign or go down this checklist:
  • [Item] CustomSwordItem
  • [LWeapon] SwordHitboxTracker
  • [LWeapon] SwordSparkle
  • [LWeapon] SwordBeams
  • [Combo] CustomSwordExtraProperties
  • [Combo] SwordBeamData
  • [Combo] SwordChargeComboData
  • [Combo] CustomSwordFineTuning
  • [Generic] TempLinkState_Generic
  • [Generic] PlayerAnimUpdate
  • [Generic] CustomSwordGeneric
With the scripts assigned, it's time to edit your item. Choose one of the zz item classes and give it the CustomSwordItem script for its active script slot. There's a bunch of settings under InitD, Attributes, and Flags. It would be too much to go over here but you can check the metadata labels and help buttons for instructions on what they all do.

Two of the settings on the attributes tab ask for combos.

Sword Charge Combos uses four combos to define extra animations for the sword's charging animations. These combos should have the SwordChargeComboData script for instructions.

Extra Settings Combo has a bunch of extra settings for the item. I ran out of attribute space in the item editor and so had to daisy chain combos onto it like this. This combo should have the CustomSwordExtraProperties script for instructions.

From the Extra Settings Combo's attributes, there are Beam Combos which control the graphics and properties of the sword's beams, if it has any. These combos should have the SwordBeamData script for instructions.

Directional Fine Tuning Combos is the first of four combos used for direction based positioning. If you don't need this degree of control, leave it as 0. These combos should have the CustomSwordFineTuning script for instructions.
After all this setup, your sword should be good to use. It's just a matter of tweaking the settings to your liking.

This script requires both TempLinkState.zh and PlayerAnim.zh.
