Interlopers - 2020_01
Description:
2020 Track 1
Second song I have written for 2020. This song to an extent is a continuation of Track 0 - Grim Patrol. This one was also produced from finger-picking on bass and I think it translated a bit better. I think the looping has been a bit janky for ZQuest, I have had luck with Loop Start being set to -1 or 0 if there even is a difference between those two settings.
As a continuation of the aforementioned track which has an air of looming danger in it, I see this one as the resolution of that tension. The character has run into the danger and maybe is trying to talk their way out of the situation.

Fun rhythm and good use of staccato. The funky piano part around 1:00 made me smile. I definitely feel the tension rising toward the last third of the loop as the guitar gets more chromatic. IMO, it's tricky to picture this on a loop since the song evolves a lot over its duration. The gradual changes are all coherent from A to B to C to D, but there's some built-up intensity that the transition from D to A abandons. If I used this, I could see myself treating it as two independent looping songs using 1:25 as the split, where maybe the first part would be the approach toward an encounter and the latter part would be for actively engaging that foe. Whatever the format, this is good stuff.
