Grim Patrol - 2020_00
Description:
2020 Track 0
This is the first song I've written in at least 4 years and maybe the first original song in 10 years.
It's very simple, born from a bit of finger-picking on bass. I think the translation worked about as well as I expected.
For this one, I see someone solemnly trudging through a mountain pass laden with thick fog, dew-covered grass, and mud. Danger is afoot, they can see tracks in the mud, but the fog is too thick to see.

The consistent rhythm and tone in the bass communicate the theme of pushing forward quite nicely when contrasted with the strings and vibraphone. It's as if its saying, despite everything else going on, we need to move forward step by step. This track reminds me of something from Donkey Kong Country, especially around 0:34 with the half-step key change and the introduction of the vibraphone. I feel a mood shift around 0:53 as the bass breaks its drone-like repetition and the vibraphone melody gets more direct support from the strings. I find the earlier parts a bit more atmospheric and evocative, but the composition of the latter part is still solid.
