Hey, what a great not-too-long, not-too-short diversion! I really enjoyed this! Mega Man is my favorite game series and I really like all the nods and references to it that you threw in here.

There are some small flaws here. The biggest (and certainly not your fault) is that the collision detection on spikes in sideview gravity can be a pain sometimes. Then there are little hiccups like trying to line Link up on a vertical ladder through a narrow gap and the brief but risky delay between the time you shoot, and the time you are allowed to jump. On another note, the disappearing blocks take too much time to reappear.

Some players may be a little frustrated about the one arrow on the screen limitation, and the fact that powerups are a little bit scarce (it's can be hard to refill after a boss) but I never found it too frustrating. Only one or two bosses really were bothersome (such as Whizz Man and another boss or two that slips my mind). I found the difficulty manageable and only had to redo things a couple times on occasion.

For the most part I stuck to the arrow and feather, I didn't learn the weaknesses (assuming you put weaknesses in there).

The graphics are the basic set, but really well chosen to look like Mega Man stages. A few more original graphics, and better palettes would've been nice, but as a Z1 style game, it works. I do have to point out that the small health and energy pellets are incorrect. The health should be round, not oval, and the energy pellets are larger than that. I don't know why you didn't rip the correct graphics for those.

I think this took me an hour (or an hour and a half) to beat.
I liked this quite a bit. I give it a 4 :)

Edit: Staff contacted me an basically told me that I'd have to bump up my rating for all quests I have ever reviewed by one star. Note that this does not reflect my own opinion on the matter, or the quest, but just that it was something I was made required to do.

For what it is, I'd not say that this quest is terrible. In fact, it did a lot of things better than I expected it to. The problem is that it's just not good enough to justify playing. The platforming physics in side-view ZC is pretty darn bad, so all platforming just becomes awkward. And in general, if I wanted to get a nes style megaman experience then there are plenty of games like that, both the original 6, then a gazillion of ROM hacks of those games, as well as some more modern stuff that follows the same formula like MM9 and 10, etc.

The level design was just kind of boring and not very interesting, same when it comes to the graphics.

The boss fights that I experienced were in general poor and featured either attacks that you couldn't dodge, or attacks that were very easy to dodge (Wizzrobe man comes to mind...). Furthermore, a lot of features that makes megaman games function are missing: You don't get your health and ammo back in between missions, bosses have no health bar so it's impossible to figure out if the weapon you're using is it's weakness, etc.

It's not a horrible quest, but after half an hour there was nothing that made me want to keep playing it.

Found this quest earlier today before work, then I sat down tonight to play it. Without even looking at the weakness order I just had at it.

The layout itself was really thought out. The useage of the tiles was really nice. The boss originality was really good. The Insta-death traps felt both okay and not okay. It was a semi cheap moment in Zol Man, but overall not too over-bearing.

As a mock up to a MegaMan game, it holds decently well. Being that MegaMan is one game I excell at, I managed to knock this puppy out within an hour. I would still play it again just for fun.

I must agree with other people on the ladders being a little too tight, but then I figured out you can jump up them. Overall even with the couple of things I saw as minute hang-ups: I give this a 5/5

A semi-classical Zelda quest made to be like a brother game of the NES? Real frickin' neat-o!

I'll say I enjoyed the idea alone. It's not the best, most amazing quest ever (I lied.), but it is certainly better than any video game clones due to its originality. It just proves more that you can enjoy a quest without many bells and whistles.

I did have fun watching myself find small bugs, especially standing on spikes a few times and not dying. Small platforms and Fire Zol's are mean. Ganon is annoying to fight in a side-scroller environment, as well. Also, I noticed that the quest is slightly too easy to complete with just using arrows.

I downvoted this by two more points for not incorporating slide or charge buster.

As a avid Mega Man fan, you did a good job with this game. Overall, you did capture the spirit of what makes a Mega Man game great, however, there are some things I would of done differently.

Without spoiling anything, I would of made some adjustments to some of the boss battles to make them more exciting. Some of them where boring. I felt that some of the disappearing and reappearing block parts where unnecessary. And for the Gannon stages, I would of tried to find more ways to force Link to use the weapons he gained from the defeated bosses.

This is a fun quest that should take between an hour to two hours to complete. Great job Eddy!
