Gameplay
What else to say here other than that this quest was really fun, creative, and entertaining to play. The entire quest has the great theme of jokefulness and the quest's gameplay accomplishes that goal very nicely. During the quests, there a lot of really unexpected things such as strange looking Octoroks to teleporting randomly within a screen to receiving an item that causes you to go all crazy and sing the Madagascar song. It makes the quest really creative and funny which is, to me, the point of a joke quest in the first place. To accomplish some of these things, Avataro creatively uses scripts that are executed well in the quest itself.
In retrospect, however, there are few things within this quest that could have been improved. The most important of these is the quest's shortness. I beat the quest in 11 minutes and by the end of it I was really wanting more. I definitely wouldn't have hurt to make the quest longer; in fact, it could have made the quest even more enjoyable. The last point I wanted to mention was the slightly above average difficulty of this quest. While the quest itself isn't too difficult, it can be somewhat annoying in some areas, especially the areas with fireballs that are shot in completely random directions.
In any case, however, I feel like this quest does a great job with the gameplay by using creative tactics to bring an overall funny and enjoyable piece of work.
Story
This quest has no story other than the intro of "Yadda yadda yadda, blah blah blah." xD Moving on.
Design Attention
This quest does a rather decent job in terms of screen design. While there is nothing revolutionary in the usage of the classic tileset, the screens look visually pleasing and show effort in the sense that the screens are not designed by randomly placing down tiles. I was rather pleased with the overworld structure as well, even if it was rather linear. After all, this is a joke quest. I honestly have nothing more to mention in this specific category.
Music
This quest actually has pretty good music. I feel like the music in general fits each area rather well. And of course, the Madagascar sound effect is simply too amazing.
Concluding Thoughts/Summary
This unfortunately short quest, in retrospect to a lot of other joke quests, actually shows effort in the attempt of making a quest fun, enjoyable, jokeful, and creative. Scripts and used very eloquently to increase the already fun gameplay and this quest overall is pretty hilarious.
Strengths
- Creative and intuitive joke-like gameplay
- Decent screen design
- Good music selections
- Really good usage of scripts to increase the quality of the joke quest
- Madagascar item
- Pretty hilarious quest
- Too short, unfortunately
- Sometimes unfair gameplay situations (ex. fireballs being shot out in every direction randomly)
Rating: 7.0/10 (Good)
Database Rating: 4/5 (Great)
Thank you for making a really creative and funny joke quest! I, of course, know that this isn't what you can achieve at maximum in your quest making, but I still had a good laugh with this quest and thus you accomplished your task.
