The Hylian Phoenix OST: Confessions/Castle Town
Description:
"Confessions of a Castle Town" is a song intended to accompany weary, "beat-up" boroughs. Migokalle was originally going to use it in his quest, The Legend of Zelda: The Hylian Phoenix, as the theme for the poor district of Hyrule Castle Town. Of course, you can use the MIDI however you like.
The song faced me with some pretty tricky orchestration challenges: I wanted it to have a satisfying fullness to reflect the scale of a large town, but I didn't want it to sound too grandiose lest the listener lose grasp of the town's run-down nature. The two harpsichord parts remind the listener of the city's grittiness and the whining violin reflects the struggles of the area's inhabitants. In addition, I used a flute as a lead instead of fuller-bodied instruments like horns to keep the scope modest. The song starts in A minor but has some key changes and exotic chord choices later on for some variety. As a whole, "Confessions of a Castle Town" is one of the more complicated pieces I've ever composed, but I had a blast making it.
With the uploading of this song, PureZC's music database now has the entirety of my contributions to The Hylian Phoenix. I saved this piece for last because it's one of my favorites even four years after I composed it. With that said, I welcome all constructive criticism.
Enjoy.

Koji Kondo—His music that accompanies the third day in Clock Town has a frantic harpsichord-sounding part that inspired my use of a harpsichord here.
Robin—Without him and his vision, this piece wouldn't exist.

You've got a nice balance of major and minor chords here, and enough of a bouncy rhythm to capture the feel of something like a pub. You accomplished exactly what you were going for, although I can't say there is a particularly memorable melody in there. There are still many complexities in this track that I appreciate so I give it 4 stars.
