I can see where you were going with these, nice idea, original too... sorry to say it but your downfall is that you're not a very good tile maker (yet).

Some advice though, at the moment the tops and the bottoms of your fences look almost the same. Experiment with black (or dark) outlines around your fence except for the bottom where it meets the ground. Also, remember you're looking down onto the landscape, so perhaps do the tips of the posts a lighter colour.

As for the houses... in a situation like this you have to remember that sand is messy (same goes for snow). It'll be backed up against the houses so you wont have a harsh dark line along the front edge. Sometimes it can be hard to draw a clear distinction when the ground and the houses are the same colour, so this is where you really need to work with shading and shadows, and also LIGHTING. Ghost made reference to Tatooine. You should look at some Tatooine and middle eastern pictures to see how the lighting looks.

The sand is way too high contrast, but those houses have promise. Keep working on the textures and try to make them look somewhat more 3-dimensional. The outlines, door, and rope ladder are pretty good.

I'm giving you a 2 for effort. The fence and sand need work. The house on the other hand looks decent at least if you change the color to grey to make it look like stone (like in the gerudo fortress in oot)

I'm stuck between a 2 and a 3. I had to give a 2 cause it just isn't appealing to the eye really. Very "dirty" looking. Sand has a more smooth slight grainy look, not like a dirt hill ... and should be more bright. And those swirls in the houses aren't very good looking either, in my opinion. 2 for effort though!
