I'm not sure if that much has been fixed in the update, or what, but this quest is massively underrated.
While there are tons of red herrings, trolling, and a few screens full of powerful enemies, the quest gives you what you need to deal with all of that. If a path seems to lead to nowhere, your suspicion is very likely right. If something seems unfair, you're probably taking an approach that sets you up for failure. Can't deal with splitting darknuts with a green tunic and 5 hearts? There are sword upgrades and health to be found if you look. The strength of this quest is that it forces you to strategize and explore. The design is also interesting, taking advanteous of subtle quirks of ZC and with a complex main dungeon.
That said, I'm not sure if those screens that take advantage of ZC quirks are intentional or not. Some examples are the block maze leading to the final boss, or in the pit maze leading to the castle map, where the screen transition lets you pass over blocks or makes you pass over a pit respectively. I also get the sence that the quest just wasn't finished, as there are several screens in the 4x5 floor of the castle that are seemingly unreachable. The ending, if you want to call it that, is also very lazy and dissapointing.
I think maybe a lot of people just don't 'get' Yeto's quest. While its not a love it or hate it thing, as I myself merely like it, there is a lot of baseless disdain in the reviews. I've definitely spent 3 hours playing 4.5 star quests that don't deserve as much praise as playing 3 hours of this 1.5 star quest. The recent Tribute to Yeto's Quest is a fuller and better quest in every way, but this original is also pretty good and worth a play.
