The Hylian Phoenix OST: City of Plenty

Description:
This is a happy version of a sad version of an interpretation of an adaptation of another piece of mine, "Peacetime Plaza," so you might hear some similarities. Basically, it's the Translation Party of MIDIs. My goal here was to create a lively, happy tune which suited Robin's vision of the rich district of Hyrule Castle Town as it appeared in The Legend of Zelda: The Hylian Phoenix with an additional Zelda flare. While not perfect, It worked out well and remains one of my favorite pieces of those I've written.

When I hear this song, I think of jolly people walking in the street on a bright, sunny day. In contrast, the bridge and its resolution make me picture something imperfect, possibly a homeless person wandering in from the wrong part of town, only to be dismissed snootily by a citizen of higher class. Of course, there are a bajillion other interpretations, and really, that's your job as the listener and not mine as the composer, so have fun with it. I certainly did.

The piece is predominantly in A major, with a portion in its relative minor, F♯ minor. Speaking from experience, it's fun to play on piano, so let me know if you want some sheet music. I can surely whip something up.

Enjoy. :)

I've told you why I love this so much, but I haven't been able to rate it yet. Let me fix that.

This song sounds harmless, almost more fitting as a humble village theme if it weren't for the harpsichord. When I think of a city, I imagine something faster and more exhausting than this. The piece is very comfortable, so for a happy city it is perfect, but it doesn't have the intimidation that I imagine a city would.

The first melody is difficult to grasp at first (the one on flute), mostly because of it's free-floatiness, but after repeated listens it grows on you and becomes very likable. The music-box segment keeps things from sounding too chipper, and the nod to OOT before the end is a great treat.

Overall I think it's solid, although it is a bit on the generic side. But thinking of other bgms it can be grouped up with, it is on the upper end of the quality spectrum. Most of my complaints are about it not fitting how I envision the idea, so I'm just a snob
