Tried to add a little spice to the ring items.

This code is written for 2.55

It will only work, if you enable the following function in your qst file.
"Item Scripts Continue To Run" (ZScript -> Quest Script Settings -> Item Scripts Continue To Run)

The Script is made to create active "B" Button ring items, by using dummy rings.
You can have selectable rings with duration, costs, activate and deactivate sounds.
1. it adds a variable item (rings in this case) to the inventory silently
2. plays a variable sfx to proof that ring effects are active.
3. removes rings, after variable time (in frames)
4. plays a second sfx when the (true) ring is removed again and effects are over.
EDIT:
I made a new version of the script (including regeneration time)

- required headers: "std.zh"

Create a dummy ring and load the "ActiveRings" script in the active slot.

D0 = Item ID (chose the ring, with the effect you want to use by the dummy ring)
D1 = SFX played when the effect timer starts
D2 = Ring effect duration (in frames)
D3 = SFX played when the ring effect ends.
D4 = Regeneration time (in frames) - leave this at "0" for no delay.

Use the properties of the dummy item to modify costs.
You don't need the real rings, in your subscreen.
(cause you surely don't want em to be visible)

They only have to be "equipment items".

I already tested it, works fine...
But you're probably right.

I also made a second version, including reganeration
(delay - in frames - before you can use the dummy ring again)

I reckon you are missing brackets after checking that the item ID is not 0. It should probably be:

if(item1 > 0){
		Link->Item[item1] = true;
		Game->PlaySound(sfx1);
		Waitframes(wait);
		Link->Item[item1] = false;
		Game->PlaySound(sfx2);
}

Without brackets, only the first statement following the condition will be attached to it. However, this wouldn't be a problem as long as you don't call the script with item 0.
