Beat this in about 3 and a half hours, pretty solid all around but definitely has aged quite a bit. As it is though, it's quite nice and nostalgic, I remember trying this quest as a kid and just couldn't really figure out how to get past Level 2, but coming back over a decade later had me determined to finish it. And yea, it was a cool Z1-style quest with an iconic tileset. The dungeons were pretty cool to go through and the overworld is pretty standard for the time. I do feel the quest is a bit on the easy side of things but it's not too bad. Screen design in general is fine, definitely does show the early days of ZC where things were used a bit weird and so the overworld doesn't look as great as it could have. Dungeons look fine though and I'm actually quite a big fan of Level 6. Level 9 was disappointing to me since it was simply just a boss rush, but as far as the bosses do go they were pretty cool, and the small amount of 2.10-style bosses were neat.
Overall though this was a pretty nice old quest, definitely worth coming back to but I do feel a lot of screen and quest design has aged fairly poorly which is why I'm giving this a solid 3/5, but it's still pretty good for 2009.

Description
The story of this quest is your basic Legend of Zelda story, meaning your main task is to save both Hyrule and Princess Zelda from Ganon by finding all the Triforce of Wisdom fragments, entering Ganon's Lair, and destroying him. The quest does start a bit on the easy side, and then things do pick up starting around Level 5 or so. And, though it's a NES-driven quest, there are mechanics in it that aren't (including a couple of custom bosses), so do expect some surprises!
Also, this “Legacy” revamped version includes, likely final, quality-of-life updates to the original quest that will hopefully address all of the prior minor graphical or miscellaneous issues with previous releases. Should be a lot smoother to play now. Hope you enjoy!

Story
Your basic Legend of Zelda story: save both Hyrule and Princess Zelda by collecting all eight Triforce of Wisdom fragments, which allows you to access Ganon's Lair and a chance to ruin his evil plans. The title of the game is meant to emphasize the main secret of the game, the Golden Ring, which is obtained by completing a short but extremely secretive side quest sequence!
