The fog rises! Trust me on this one, the fog is like just offscreen and we barely made it in time. Aside from Moosh, he fell off. Anyways, here's Screen Rebirth 32.

Here's the base screen:

Wowwww, look at Moosh remaking his own screen. Wowww, look at Moosh having difficulty remaking his own screen because his base layout was awkward.

I tried remaking the screen.
I crashed and burned trying to parse what the mountain layout should be.

It's... something, all right. I wasn't sure that DoR would even work. It looks like FTX's screen is the closest.

Speaking of it,

FTX6004: Excellent work as usual. Great usage of the structure, and it has good detailing as well. (I just realized that you could have been using Cambria, rather than classic, this whole time. Ah well. At least I was close.)

Moosh: Quite nice, and the layout even looks like it could be from official GBZ (OoA specifically). Also, it's amusing to see you have trouble with your own mountain.

Zeron: Surprisingly, DoR mountains can be this contorted and still look good.

All 3 screenshots are pretty good, but in the end, my vote goes to moosh. The colour-contrast here is pretty nice, while the other screens are a bit fixated on one side of the colour-pallete.

Wow. This was a pretty impressive turnout.

FTX6004: Loving the way you transitioned it into a dungeon shot, and adoring the use of elevation and overhangs. Aside from looking gorgeous, it looks super fun to navigate.

Zeron: Holy moly! I usually caution against the pancake DoR mountains mixing with diagonals, cuz I find people can't be trusted to follow the rules, but this somehow captures the complexity of the base screen, uses wild overhangs, and, as far as I can tell, doesn't break any of the rules. It's as gorgeous as it is technically impressive. My vote went here.

Moosh: While not bad at all, I feel it's the weakest of the three shots. My biggest issue is the central overhang with the heart piece. It feels... too heavy to not snap off the cliff face and tumble down, given how far out it projects. I feel like it need a "column" coming down from the middle to make the platform look more supported.

The base screen: Moosh, the blizzard will stop if you just climb two feet to the dungeon entrance don't blow away aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

... ahem.

It's possible I'm way overanalyzing things, but everyone made fantastic use of 3D space in a 2D engine, so I feel like it deserves the extra attention. Fantastic work all around. I'd encourage everyone to not let their screens just be mockups. Give us real, playable areas with this degree of attention paid to navigable space. I'm begging you. I want to explore these areas very badly!

Shocked how close the vote is currently, seeing as I only made my screen to fill out the pool so SR wouldn't have to be delayed. Gonna feel a little bad if it wins...

FTX6004: Another great Cambria dungeon shot. I like the interpretation of the rocky overhangs as walkable space, making for a much more playable screen than the base. The whole flow of this screen is fun. I'm not quite sure if the mixing of lava and water tiles works since the lava tiles have a bit less texture to them and expose the grid. I'm also curious what's up with that floating checkerboard tile. Is it a level mechanic? Would it transport you to another part of the dungeon?

Zeron: Blown away by the masterful use of DoR perspective here. It felt at several points like it shouldn't work but it does. This is my favorite this week. Now I've just gotta see something like this in a finished quest.

I was going for a poisonous liquid-like look with the lava/water tiles, didn't really notice the exposed grid until now that you mentioned it. (I blame the tiles for being too animated while i was making my screen so i didn't notice it x.x)

Also the checkerboard tile is actually just a moving platform just to get a quick back up from the key location, i had placed it on top rather than bottom for more reaction time but it might ended up looking a bit out of context by this snapshot i took.

Really awesome dungeon screen, I love the palette and the detailing. This is Classic to the max. Looks-maxxed?  :whap:

Zeron

My vote went here. What an adventurous screen this is. I'd love to explore it. And of course I love this complex mountain layout.

Moosh
Nice and quaint screen. It looks really good and reminds me of the golden-age for the Pure tileset.

I had to vote for Moosh. As a certified Girl of '03, I love me a good Pure tileset screen. Helps that the palette is absolutely gorgeous.
