Er, should I post this as loose tiles or a quest file? Eh, the quest file is probably better. Worst case I change it later.

Have you ever wanted to use Dance of Remembrance classic (DoR) but thought: "I think we're old enough to admit that this tileset can look pretty but is completely unworkable and not viable to create a quest in"? (Aslion, 2022, DoR reviews)

Well, no more! Probably. This third version of DoR is designed to address all the issues, gaps, and lack of modern touches that make the original unworkable for modern projects.

Download link, provided early for those who would rather explore than read: https://expo.purezc....DoR-TE_V0.9.qst
Requires ZC 2.55.9 or later.

Features

New items! The item list has been completed with graphics original and new, and all items have been configured for immediate use.
SwitchBugNet.png
Switch hook and bug net tiles.

New sprites! Unconfigured sprites have been configured, and new sprites complete the sprite list. Ice magic, for example: IceMagic.gif

Additional Link tiles! Link tiles, including hatless, are feature complete, except for sideview swimming tiles.

Added combo functionality! Combo types have been added to match modern, probably, standards and allow for a smooth experience.
For example, slopes can add smoothness to screen structure, grass and pots can be slashed and thrown, and torches can illuminate dark rooms and light arrows and boomerangs on fire.
Slopes.png
Example of slopes, featuring Screen Rebirth 24.

DarkRoom.png
Dark room functionality; demonstrated with a thrown together screenshot.

New subscreens! Two new subscreen types make using new items easy.
Subscreens.png
The most complete, for now, subscreen.

New functional combos!
Combos.png
Oh dear. It seems that Radien is better at fonts.

Aliases and autocombos! (For overworld tiles only, hence version 0.9.)

And a plethora of other details, already configured for convenience. (Favorite combos, quest rules, bottle shops...)

Credits

Aslion - a comment that started quite a lot.

Radien and all DoR credits - for the original tileset.

Demonlink and all DoR:HT credits - DoR: Hybrid Tileset, which, while not included, still helped cause this project.

Nintendo and the Zelda team - inspiration and reference material, especially a Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time.

Cambria tileset, Classic tileset, and their teams - reference material for ZC standards.

Zeron - developer.

Zap Skylance (who is currently not on PureZC) - Q&A, advice, ect.

God - project initiator, manager, ect.

F.A.Q. (Feasibly Asked Questions)

Did you get permission from Radien?

Sadly, I cannot contact him. Thus, the project is unofficial and completely at his disposal.

Why not just use DoR: Hybrid Tileset?

DoR:H is great, and it's totally functional itself. However, it takes significant style cues from the Minish Cap, while DoR is much closer to aLttP and OoT. Thus, the styles are somewhat different.

Why did you do X in the tileset?

Who knows. Some things are designed to match existing DoR design, and many other things are arbitrary. If you have a better idea, just mention it.

Can you include X?

Probably. Mention it, and I'll likely add it to the to do list.

The graphics for X aren't great.

Just mention such tiles, or potentially provide new graphics, and I'll look into re-doing or replacing the tiles. Also, submissions can be added as alternative tiles.

What were you thinking when you did X?

That's easy. There's a good chance that I wasn't. Just mention things that need changing, and I'll look into it.

Can I use X for something else?

Yeah. Treat any separated original DoR assets as if they were from the original tileset, and any new assets can be used however. You should probably provide credit, though.

Why are relative combos a mess?

You found them? Cool. Now I can fix it.

What's next for the tileset?

ZC 3.0 stuff probably, new sounds, extra polish... Who knows when, or how much. Version 1.0 should be complete pretty soon, and ZC 3.0 content is planned to be next, but beyond that?
It depends on what people want.

Finally finished. Phew.

Always down for DoR.

I'll second that.

I'm glad that you like it! It's hard to know the quality of work in a vacuum, so the feedback is quite helpful. Thank you.

I am, but I hadn't joined any channels. I just joined the PureZC channel, and I've left a post on the equivalent to this topic to make finding me easier. (I probably should have done that in the beginning.)

Thank you. Let me know if you have any requests (beyond credit, that's a given) for how the tiles are implemented.

Good to see such an important tileset get a long overdue update! I've been messing around with DoR lately so it couldn't have come at a better time lol.

I have a soft spot for Dance of Remembrance. It's probably been long enough to call it nostalgia. Seeing such a tileset in the latest versions of Zelda Classic is so surreal, keep up the good work!

This looks absolutely fantastic and will probably motivate me to make a quest in this tileset at some point. I love how you're using the slope feature for the mountains, and am excited to see how else you implement modern ZQuest features into this set!

Thank you! I wasn't initially sure how relevant this project would be, and I'm glad to hear that it will be of use.

Looks like focusing on basic functionality for the expo worked out well.

This looks absolutely fantastic and will probably motivate me to make a quest in this tileset at some point.

Considering your skill with Classic and GBZ, I definitely look forward to seeing what you can do with a pure-based tileset.

I love how you're using the slope feature for the mountains, and am excited to see how else you implement modern ZQuest features into this set!

Zap Skylance (in the credits) suggested that one, I believe based on Pure Tileset Update Supreme. In fact, he suggested most of the modern touches that weren't obvious when I looked at Cambria, Classic, or ZQ itself (Bottles, Bomb flowers, ect.). So, if you notice something that would be cool, just mention it. It's quite likely that I never thought of it, and I'll put it on the list of things to try.

As a aside, having seen your signature for the first time, wow. I knew that you won "Most Improved Content Creator" a lot, but that's some consistency.

Hello,

I'm glad that you like it and are getting some use from it. Making this version ready for use by the expo was a major goal.

Happy to help, this project's purpose is to be useful, so I'm glad that it could do that.
